Life science impacts people's lives every day. It is essential to the understanding of disease, diversity of life and all biological topics. It would be nearly impossible to make informed decisions about everything from disease treatment to how to improve crop yields without advanced life science education. Life science teachers are, therefore, a necessary part of any high school's faculty as they guide the education of future scientists, technicians, and other biological science workers. Teaching is in a single-gender environment. Courses taught in this in this position may include, but are not limited to: Biology, Advanced Biology, and Honors Anatomy & Physiology

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

• Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on national, local and school standards in science education and research and knowledge of developmental behaviors.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Deliver high-quality, engaging, balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
• Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks or other standard test practices.
• Collaborate in the development of a vertically aligned science curriculum across Learning Communities.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional colleagues.
• Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, potential and behavior periodically through phone or electronic means and at parent and teacher conferences.
• Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of the national curriculum standards and have experience closing the achievement gap, and develop engaging and innovative lessons that allow students to grow academically, socially and emotionally. The teacher is someone who incorporates technology and hands-on learning experiences into the classroom with enthusiasm. This educator believes in collaboration with other colleagues and promotes understanding and communication in a diverse learning and cultural environment.

Basic requirements include but are not limited to:

• Bachelor's or higher in science, with a current teaching certificate
• A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
• A desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies, student growth and best pedagogical practices.
• Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community
• Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs
