Position Purpose: Teaches four sections of ceramics and/or sculpture at an introductory level to an advanced level. Engages students in a variety of dynamic and diverse ceramic projects (and/or other 3-D forms).

Essential Functions
  • Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and student resources.
  • Manages budget and materials for the course, including ordering/maintaining supplies, providing monthly reports/reconciliations, and other administrative duties associated with maintaining a studio space.
  • Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Evaluates student work and provides meaningful feedback in the form of critiques to guide student learning and growth.
  • Helps students to develop academic arts language/arts literacy standards within the field, with emphasis on the 8 studio habits of mind.
  • Provides students exposure to diverse contemporary artists working within the ceramics/sculpture field and beyond, working to foster a lens of Arts Activism.
  • Provides meaningful assessment opportunities through guided reflection on process.
  • Guides students to contribute to multiple student art shows and community events throughout the school year.
  • Maintains classroom space to be clean, accessible, and organized with the maintenance of regular weekly firings and regularly loading/unloading kilns
  • Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective classroom culture that supports student engagement and learning.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs.
  • Contributes actively to building a vibrant faculty/staff learning culture.
  • Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
  • Maintains expertise in subject matter and pedagogy through professional development.
Job Qualifications
  • A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior modeled on it.
  • BA/BFA degree in a relevant field and prior experience teaching studio art and/or working with adolescents. Prior experience working in an independent/Catholic school environment and a Master's degree in a relevant field and /or teaching credential in an appropriate subject matter are preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • The time of day for teaching and other duties varies by day.
  • Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and complexities serving a varied constituency.
  • Must be able to regularly move safely and comfortably over a 64-acre campus.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time (up to 6+ hours per day).
  • Be able to regularly lift up to 10 lbs and on occasion, safely lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and outside in weather ranging from cold and wet to very warm (80+ degrees).
  • Available and willing to work evenings and weekends, as required.
