Job Description
The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union in southern Vermont is seeking a full time licensed Special Educator to provide IEP services, case manage students, and conduct special education evaluations for elementary and middle school students at Flood Brook School. In this position, a special educator will work with classroom teachers to ensure well-aligned, personalized, instructional programming for students. We are looking for an advocate with tenacity and a growth mindset, who sets high standards for students. A willingness to collaborate and think creatively are some important traits we seek in our teachers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures students are supported in learning a grade-appropriate, instructional program from an approved curriculum.
Responsible for all elements of the IEP process; the evaluation, planning, and case management of eligible students
Collaborates effectively with school staff, families and appropriate agencies
Acquires and exhibits working knowledge of program procedures, routines and current best practices in Special Education and other professional related areas as assigned.
May participate in conferences, meetings, and trainings as appropriate or assigned.
Working knowledge of Special Education state and federal guidelines,regulations, and laws.
Knowledge and experience with behavioral strategies, accommodations, and interventions for secondary students with emotional/behavioral challenges.
May perform other work related responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor degree Demonstrated skill and experience in working with students with disabilities is required Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsement Copies of transcripts and license(s) must be uploaded to the application for all licensed positions. Successful applicants to Licensed positions will be required to provide official transcripts to Human Resources before completion of the hiring process. Preferences: VT AOE Licensure as a Special Educator
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Master degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required

    The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) is a public school system located in southwestern Vermont. The BRSU includes school districts in four Vermont counties and three Vermont technical center regions. The BRSU is the second largest Vermont supervisory union with a total area of approximately 460 square miles. In 2018, BRSU districts have a total combined enrollment of 2,200 students.

    A unique feature of the BRSU is that none of its districts operates a high school. All BRSU districts have high school choice. BRSU districts send students to over 30 public and independent high schools with a large number of BRSU students choosing to attend Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT.
