The Roaring Fork Schools are looking for three Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) EARSS and MTSS Specialist

The Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) Expelled and At-Risk Student Support grant (EARSS) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Specialist is a grant-funded, 2-year position to support the development of a district-wide MTSS program that supports our mission to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world. This position is responsible for collaborating closely with either elementary, middle or high school building administrators, educators, support staff, families and students to establish and implement a tiered framework that uses data to meet the needs of every student through academics, behavior and social-emotional learning interventions.
  • Year 1 will involve working closely with school-based MTSS teams to strengthen and implement MTSS systems. The TOSA will work closely with the district MTSS team to develop a comprehensive MTSS framework.

  • Year 2 will continue with implementation and facilitation of MTSS across assigned schools.


This is a position on the MTSS Team, directly reporting to the MTSS/EARSS Coordinator. Qualified applicants will have experience implementing high quality MTSS and possess strong collaboration, coaching and leadership skills.

Note for current RFSD teachers interested in this position: Upon conclusion of the 2-year duration of this position, RFSD teachers will be guaranteed a position in the district, but not necessarily the same position that they held prior to the leave. All teachers are subject to the possibility of displacement and are not provided additional employment rights or privileges because they are a TOSA.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives direct supervision from the EARSS/MTSS Coordinator.

PRIMARY DUTIES - The following are examples of primary duties assigned to the position. Other related primary duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

MTSS Coordination
  • Support the development and implementation of the district MTSS framework and strategic plan. Work closely with the MTSS team and school-based MTSS teams.

  • Support assigned school-based MTSS teams to strengthen and implement district MTSS framework.

  • Work collaboratively with school administrators, school-based leadership teams, and teachers to facilitate implementation of the MTSS framework.

  • Coach and support school-based MTSS teams to analyze student needs and identify research-based interventions across academic, behavior and social-emotional learning.

  • Collaborate with the district data analyst to establish data collection and analysis procedures to inform decision-making around student needs and district/school resource allocation and intervention.

  • Collaborate with the district data analyst to implement technology platforms to support MTSS.

  • School-based MTSS and student support teams (attend all meetings for all schools assigned, participant and coach)

  • Levels Teams (participant in assigned level)


  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    MTSS framework: Universal, Targeted and Intensive Instruction and Supports

    Social-emotional learning, restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, and family engagement.

    Implementation science to effectively integrate new practices into existing systems (or develop new systems)

    Restorative, Trauma-Informed, and Culturally Sustaining Practices

    Equitable educational practices in the MTSS framework for emerging bilingual students, gifted students, and students with disabilities

    Skills:

    Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills

    Ability to facilitate change management within individuals, teams and organizations.

    Ability to collect and analyze data to drive improvement

    Able to build and maintain respectful, professional partnerships in order to support building leaders and teams

    Commitment to working with students from marginalized communities through an asset-based mindset and approach.

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred

    At least five years of effective work in education, ideally as an educator participating on student support and MTSS teams.

    LOCATION

    The position will be primarily located at the Carbondale District Office, but requires frequent travel to Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Basalt.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Office environment; exposure to computer screens; travel from site to site. Must provide own vehicle and cell phone. The employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Light lifting and carrying.

    DAYS WORKED

    185 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter and spring breaks)

    PAY RANGE

    $50,000 to 71,895 **Based on education and years of experience

    **Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day (FTE 1) and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.
