ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT GIFTED EDUCATION TEACHER
Reports to: Director of Special Services

Minimum salary $60,000. Salary placement based upon experience.


Job Description

The role of the gifted education teacherfor the Elizabeth School District is twofold based on the required responsibilities set out by the state of Colorado for receiving the Universal Screener and Qualified Personnel Grant (USQP) and additional responsibilities set forth by the school district.

USQP Requirements

The teacher of gifted education must have or be working toward a gifted endorsement or an advanced degree in gifted education. The teacher is responsible for the following:

  • Facilitate collaborative development, submission, and implementation of the Gifted Education Comprehensive Program Plan (CPP).

  • Administer gifted budget allocations, Universal Screening and Qualified Personnel grant, and the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) that includes provisions for gifted students. Ensure constituent schools implement the AU's CPP and UIP.

  • Articulate the mission, vision, and goals of gifted education and the Administrative Unit's gifted education program design to stakeholders.

  • Develop a team or steering committee to collaborate regarding gifted student achievement, growth, and programming options. and advocacy.

  • Ensure that staff is familiar and involved with identification procedures and Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) development.

  • Be a support, advocate, and spokesperson for gifted students and gifted education information.

  • Foster the assimilation of gifted education into Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and assessment programs.

  • Integrate the afftective needs of gifted students into ongoing, tiered programming options offered in the Administrative Unit.

  • Build partnerships with district offices for the reporting of gifted student enrollment, achievement, growth, and improvements.

  • Develop and implement a long-term plan for professional development, thereby increasing the capacity of educators to know, understand, and serve gifted students.

  • As per the AU's timeline, prepare and guide the AU through the Gifted Education Monitoring process; conduct program evaluations; and develop, implement, and monitor improvement targets as needed.

  • Consider a strong gifted education program as a means to: Maximize gifted student achievement, growth and development of exceptionalities; support proportionality in enrollment; provide accelerated learning opportunities; reduce potential drop-out rates; and provide Colorado with highly prepared candidates for high level university and employment opportunities.



Additional District Responsibilities:

  • Ensure there is a designated gifted liaison in each school and use this team to disseminate information, provide valuable feedback, serve as a team member for gifted identification, and assist with program planning.

  • Update the gifted pages on the district website and provide other forms of communication throughout the year to parents and teachers.

  • Provide professional development on gifted procedures within the district, gifted characteristics, and differentiated instruction to teachers and parents. This includes new teacher induction training at the beginning of each school year.

  • Manage the development of student ALPs at each building.

  • Oversee the administration of the CogAT universal screener twice a year: fall 6th grade and winter/spring 2nd grade. This includes working with school principals and assessment coordinators as well as the district assessment coordinator and data management person.

  • Administer individual CogAT assessments one time each year for those students who have been referred to the identification process by teachers or parents.

  • Oversee the identification process including working with a team for final identification, reviewing achievement data, sending home the Scales for Identifying Gifted Students (SIGS) to parents and teachers, recording data on student identification profiles, sending letters to parents when students are formally identified, and making sure profiles are uploaded to Infinite Campus for easy access to teachers and for transfers.

  • Plan and implement learning opportunities for Gifted Students (currently four Discovery Days) throughout the year for identified gifted students grades 3-8.

  • Ensure a teacher is designated as the Gifted STEAM Camp coordinator or plan and implement the program as the district gifted coordinator.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION
  • Colorado Teacher's License
    Gifted and Talented Masters Degree or Endorsement
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License

  • Moderate lifting five (5) to fifty (50) pounds.
