Job Description / Essential Elements:

CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT

DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, perform work of routine difficulty in providing general instructional support services in various educational programs; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• As directed, assists teachers in general supervision of students
• Records attendance
• Administers, scores and records the results of routine tests
• Assembles, distributes, collects and maintains instructional materials
• Assists students in interpreting assignments and following directions
• Assists students in attending to personal needs
• Performs related duties as assigned

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school.

Knowledge of:

• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic
• General classroom procedures, practices and equipment
*Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultrual and ethnic backgrounds of students

Skill in:

• Following oral and written directions
• Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others
Demonstrating patience and compassion

  • Maintaining positive and encouraging demeanor


  • Supporting the teacher's classroom organizational system


  • Demonstrating knowledge of school standards and code of conduct

    Special Job-Related Requirements:

    Early Childhood Education Experience, Bilingual Desired; Upon employment, employees can earn up to 12 Early Childhood Education Units per year.

    To qualify for this position applicant must have a high school diploma and ONE of the following:

    -official transcripts of at least two years of college (48 units) or an AA degree; or

    -provide proof of passing CBEST; or

    -pass our proficiency exam.

    Areas covered on the proficiency exam are math, reading and writing. Those candidates successful in the above areas will be invited to interview. All material to be reviewed by the screening committee must be submitted with the application.
