PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
To help establish, maintain, support and sustain a college-going culture in the Waterbury Public Schools, high schools. To provide leadership in advancing college success programs by collaborating with local colleges and universities. Coordinates students in Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences, including scheduling career speakers and tours, internships, apprenticeships, job shadows, paid work, volunteer, and capstones at the high school level.

PART II - QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 092 Certification
  2. 7 years of successful experience working with students aged 12-21
  3. Extensive knowledge of colleges and universities in Waterbury, CT, State of CT, and National
  4. Extensive knowledge of work-based learning opportunities in Waterbury, CT
  5. 104 certification preferred
  6. Bilingual certification preferred
  • Plan/organize college tours/visitation; partnerships with college advisors.
  • Assist WPS in maintaining the culture needed to support sustainable college preparation/dual credit programs.
  • Support student transitions between high school and post-secondary options - summer prep for college.
  • Provide awareness of all aspects of the college admissions process.
  • Collaborate with colleges to identify and provide specialized programs of interest to students.
  • Collaborate with the Waterbury Promise Program.
  • Works with universities to seek internship opportunities for district students.
  • Foster educational campus experiences for middle school students and families.
  • Collect and analyze data regarding college matriculation, persistence, and completion rates, and perform research studies and special projects as assigned.
  • Works closely with school counselors, students, and families to ensure students clearly understand the district's college and career pathways, aligned course offerings, and completion requirements for post-secondary success.
  • Integrate the Portrait of a Graduate in all WBL instruction, activities, and experiences.
  • Facilitate and coordinate professional development for parents, community members, administrators, and other stakeholders on work-based learning programs.
  • Connect students to interest, passion, and career opportunities and coordinate learning opportunities for students within the school system or the community.
  • Support and partner with school counselors as students complete Naviance career interest inventories.
  • Collaborate with WPS staff and postsecondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways that prepare students for apprenticeships, community college, or university degree programs.
  • Supervise and monitor students in work, internship, apprenticeship, and volunteer experiences to assess/evaluate their skill development, provide support, and track the appropriateness of workplace conditions.
  • Monitor and assist in the maintenance of required documentation for WBL experiences.
  • Collect and submit data and reports.
  • Establish relationships with businesses, local workforce agencies, and higher education partners to provide WBL experiences, registered apprenticeships, industry certifications, and concurrent enrollment support.
  • Serve on local workforce development boards and sector partnerships.
  • Provide resource materials and relevant and current community resources and outreach.
  • Maintain lists of businesses/industries willing to participate in work-based learning.
  • Assist in screening, interviewing, and selecting qualified students for work-based learning experiences.
  • Develops apprenticeship programs
  • Other duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of WBL and college readiness.

PART IV - POSITION SUPERVISES
Position may supervise members of the WTA as required by the Director of College and Career Readiness
