JOB DESCRIPTION: Director of Transportation

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer

SUMMARY:
Ensure students' safe and efficient transportation by all applicable state and federal regulations and statutes, board of education policies, and district administrative guidelines. The Director of Transportation is responsible for working with the transportation staff to facilitate cooperation with local school district administrators, parents/guardians/caregivers, teachers, staff, and communities. Works with local district administrators as a resource to develop and implement new services for cost-effectiveness and meet the needs of districts and students being served. Must have budget experience as the job requires creative writing and reviewing budget plans.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators to determine the transportation needs of all students.Prepares and oversees the budget and continuously monitors spending to ensure that costs are consistent with the approved budget.Develops request for proposal (RFP) for transportation contract and monitors contract fulfillment.Approves purchase order requests of trips through requisition receipts and purchase order review invoices for accuracy.Evaluates and monitors need requests in town and outplaced with the assistance of student service supervisors.Evaluate students eligible for transportation under the McKinney-Vento Act.Resolves issues and problems related to pupil transportation and meets with parents and principals as needed.Provide schools with info to parents and students about bus routes.Monitors contract compliance with penalty imposition on vendor performance.Plan and implement school transportation programs.Performs other related duties as assigned by Chief Operating Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or business-related field; Master's Degree Preferred.Experience in administering and operating transportation systems.Ability to work under pressure.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with school staff, contracted vendors, and community personnel.Excellent time management and organizational skills.Work independently and manage time effectively.Maintain accurate and detailed records of a quantitative nature.Understand transportation procedures and decisions with sound fiscal management.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Frequent evening work required, including attendance at Board of Education meetings and events, school system meetings and circumstances, and community activities as needed.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Executive Management and Confidential Employees; 12-Month work year; Non-Bargaining Grid. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education. EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Chief Operating Officer
