Full Time Position (1.0 FTE)

SUMMARY -- Provides support to a school district program. Maintains accurate reporting of revenues and expenses, monitors the general ledger and makes corrections as necessary, prepares and distributes invoices, monitors payments/collections, prepares cash receipts, and makes bank deposits. Prepares purchasing documents, reviews and prepares payroll documents, and maintains/monitors credit card purchases for several staff members. Prepares/monitors and/or assists with and provides guidance for travel authorizations

for internal and external staff. Prepares routine financial reports for District staff and the public. Works closely with the finance office for compliance to accounting procedures. Works with cash-handling staff to facilitate proper process and procedure. It should be noted that accounting technicians may have significant responsibility for cash handling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -- The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Additional course work or experience in bookkeeping, financial reconciliation or other accounting functions,
  • Two years prior clerical accounting experience or customer/agency billing experience preferred.
  • Experience working within regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license required.
Knowledge of:

Basic general ledger accounting functions
Account reconciliations
Routine financial analysis and reporting
Common purchasing procedures
Principles and practices of invoicing for payments
Policies and procedures for purchasing, cash receipts, collections
Credit card procedures
Accounting software
Basic bookkeeping and file/recordkeeping.
Modern office equipment including 10-key adding machine/calculator
Office practices and procedures.
Personal computers and related software

Ability to:
Maintain accurate financial records
Learn and apply existing accounting systems, policies, procedures, methods and techniques
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Operate a personal computer and related software including accounting software and spreadsheets applications.
Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors and members of the public.
Perform arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
Maintain accurate and complete records and files both electronic and paper.

COMPENSATION: This is a full-time 12-month position, working 37.5 hours per week. The starting salary is $24.45per hour. We offer an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, and paid time off.

Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints will be forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a criminal background check.
