EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY

AN INVITATION TO APPLY FOR THE POSITION OF

SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

NORTH KINGSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT, RI

The School Committee of North Kingstown, RI invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools

North Kingstown is nestled on the western shore of Narragansett Bay, 20 miles south of the capital city of Providence and just north of the University of Rhode Island. The Wickford Junction Station provides MBTA commuter train access to Boston and interstate Rt. 95 gives easy access to eastern Connecticut. North Kingstown combines historic charm with beach and boating access and quiet residential neighborhoods as well as a robust, modern economy anchored by the Quonset Davisville Park, one of the premier business hubs in New England.  Approximately 27,000 people reside within the 43 square mile town, attracting families and individuals who are seeking recreational and natural amenities as well as a high performing school department in a central location of our state.

The Town of North Kingstown is governed by a five member Town Council with an appointed Town Manager. The School Committee is also a five-member board.  The Town Budget for Fiscal Year 2023 has been recently approved at approximately $124 million, with an allocation to the school department of $74 million. In 2018, North Kingstown voters approved $13.5 million dollars to improve school buildings and athletic facilities, and also approved $500,000 in the most recent budget for other school capital improvements. The North Kingstown Schools are currently participating in an Educational Facilities Master Planning Process for long term school building organization and necessity of construction decisions.

The North Kingstown School Department is a comprehensive Pre-K to 12 system with approximately 600 employees and 4000 students at nine sites: one PreK-5 school, four K-5 elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and the Davisville Academy, a K-12 clinical day program for students experiencing behavioral, social or emotional functioning.  The district per pupil expenditure of $17,834 per student is in the mid-range for RI school systems and the district brings in $4 million yearly in tuition revenue for career and technical programs at the high school in Pre-Engineering/Robotics, Business/Finance, Computer Science and Information Technology, and Music/Music Education.   Additionally, students from the neighboring island of Jamestown have attended NKHS on a tuition basis for over 40 years. The Rhode Island Department of Education classifies the NKSD as “High-Performing and Improving” and six of the schools have achieved 4 or 5 Stars in the most recent RIDE Accountability System ranking. This strong performance, coupled with three Blue Ribbon Awards in recent years as well as a US News and World Report identification of NKHS as the 4th best high school in Rhode Island, makes the North Kingstown Schools a centerpiece of a vibrant community.

The Mission of the North Kingstown School Department is to “Educate, Inspire and Challenge” our students. To that end, the district’s vision is that “All students…will achieve rigorous learning goals and will continuously improve their academic, social, emotional, creative, and physical growth…in a learning environment that meets the diverse needs of every student.  Each student will have access to a high quality, rigorous curriculum…with the help and encouragement of staff, families, and community members…to support our priorities:  student learning and achievement, effective and innovative instruction and continuous professional development.
