Opportunity Summary

PAVE Academy Charter School seeks an experienced instructional leader to serve as its Middle School Principal. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated exceptional academic results in a high performing charter school and/or network, and are aligned with PAVE's core beliefs and educational philosophy. This is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic and laser-focused instructional and culture leader with tremendous instructional instincts, proven management skills, and capacity to implement systems to lead PAVE students to high academic and social and emotional achievement. The Middle School Principal will report to the Executive Director of PAVE Academy Charter School.

How You'll Contribute
  • Embody, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of PAVE
  • Support a positive and achievement-oriented adult culture which reflects PAVE's core values and high expectations
  • Establish a vibrant, safe and productive environment through the use of Responsive Classroom
  • Supervise and coach Deans and teachers by implementing PAVE's precise instructional systems, visiting classrooms to observe instruction, modeling effective instructional practices, providing support, and giving feedback
  • Drive the implementation of rigorous, college preparatory curriculum
  • Guide teachers through the process of collaborative reflection and planning, in alignment with PAVE goals and values
  • Support and manage teacher analysis and use of assessment data to reflect on teaching practice, make instructional decisions, inform lesson plans, and meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Utilize data to plan and lead professional development that targets areas of highest impact
  • Complete other duties as outlined by the Executive Director
What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Tremendous instructional instincts that align with the high expectations of other PAVE leaders
  • Proven ability to create, implement and manage systems and processes
  • Demonstrated high academic results, specifically in terms of ELA and Math proficiency on New York State Exams, or equivalent
  • A willingness to be held accountable and hold others accountable
  • Minimum of five years of teaching and/or instructional leadership experience, preferably in an urban setting
  • Demonstrated experience setting up strong school culture which translates to high academic and behavioral expectations
  • Deep curricular and developmental understanding of student learning
  • Positive and personable with an ability to relate to various constituencies and stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • A relentless work ethic, perseverance, a high degree of patience, and grit to push through challenges
  • High energy with the ability to multi-task and execute quickly
  • Strong judgment, initiative, and decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • The desire and humility to grow as a leader and truly serve the school before oneself
  • Ability to deliver a direct and difficult message while remaining warm and supportive
  • Bachelor's Degree (required), Master's Degree (preferred)
