SUPERVISOR: Before and After School Director

JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Extended Childcare Services (ECS) program director, provide support to individuals or small groups of children by implementing childcare programming, assisting with gaining access to remote learning when applicable, re-teaching curriculum, helping complete homework assignments, setting up executive functioning strategies, generalizing learned skills from school, and implementing strategies and supports according to the child's 504 plan. Record child achievement and progress. Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment where appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only and are subject to flexibility dependent on organizational needs.
  • Assist child with program activities, including adapting the programming to individual child needs. Assist with programming delivery to both individuals and small groups to ensure generalization of learned skills from school. [Daily, 30%]
  • Provide technical physical care for children with special needs as assigned, which may include toileting, grooming, cleaning ventilation devices, feeding, care of gastrostomy tube (G-tube), positioning, and improving range of motion. [Daily, 30%]
  • Implement child accommodations, supports, modifications, therapeutic procedures, behavior strategies, and programming outlined in the child's 504 plan. Maintain records of progress and behavior in conjunction with the program director, which may include special reports, providing feedback, and reporting observations to the program director and staff. [Daily, 20%]
  • Maintain and uphold all program safety protocols and measures at all times. Monitor child and reinforce appropriate behavior for individual child needs. Prevent child from self-harm and harm to others. Assist child development of social interactions or communication between children with special needs and general education peers. [Daily, 10%]
  • Assist program director and staff in preparing programming materials, attendance, documentation, etc. Assist with other program events, such as fire drills, as necessary. [Monthly, 5%]
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]

ONLINE/REMOTE ENVIRONMENT:
  • Assist individuals or small groups of children with online classroom activities during synchronous or asynchronous learning. [Daily, 75%]
  • Support children in completing assigned work. [Daily, 10%]
  • Maintain records of child progress and behavior in conjunction with the program director. [Daily, 9%]
  • Support children in troubleshooting technology issues. [Daily, 5%]
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 1%]

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum amounts of formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be met for a candidate to be considered for a position
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Three (3) months (i.e. 460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or part-time equivalent experience working with unrelated school-aged children
  • Eighteen (18)+ years of age
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Intermediate knowledge of all aspects of childcare
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate leadership and management skills
  • Intermediate problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Advanced interpersonal relations skills
  • Advanced organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
  • Ability to implement behavior modification techniques

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with children
  • Ability to supervise young children between six (6) weeks and five (5) years of age
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire

MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: The minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within thirty (30) days from hire date
  • Injury Prevention course certificate (must be District-approved)
  • Playground Safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers course certificate (must be District-approved)
  • Biennial Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training provided by the District
  • Completion of a minimum of fifteen (15) clock hours of training during each year of employment (June 1st through May 31st)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any job-related formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are inessential and in addition to the minimum qualifications, certifications, and licenses
  • Paid licensed child-care program, teaching assistant/para-educator, or licensed teaching experience
  • Experience working with special needs children
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
