This position is for a long-term substitute (Maternity Leave) for 6th Grade Language Arts. The applicant should have in-depth knowledge of effective teaching practices that ensure learning is a comfortable and meaningful experience. The applicant should have effective classroom management techniques.

Essential functions of the long-term substitute teacher include but are not limited to:
  • Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
  • Following procedures and achieving lesson goals.
  • Assigning and explaining homework.
  • Supervising students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways.
  • Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times.
  • Taking attendance and documenting daily notes.
  • Ensuring the classroom and work areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Overseeing the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
  • Compiling a report for the teacher when they return.
Essential functions of the regular teacher include but are not limited to:
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.
Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
  • Bachelor's degree, Elementary Education teaching certificate is preferred.
  • Strong teaching ability; enjoy working with children.
  • Ability to work well with students and colleagues.
  • Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
