Autism Services' Education Program is certified by the New York State Education Department to provide full-year school services to children ages 5 through 21. We provide individualized instruction founded in respect and creativity.
Our classes are 6:1:3 structured with additional support staff. We have two locations, in Amherst and Buffalo. The program has been in operation since 1989. A typical day includes academic work, therapy sessions, art and music classes, and adaptive physical education classes.
100% of students have likes and interests included in instruction. We utilize highly differentiated instruction, the curriculum is modified for each student to meet their individual needs.
Responsibilities:
  1. The Education Director will provide oversight, supervision, guidance, and support to staff in supervision in all school settings.
  2. Establish and monitor program-wide standards for Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and implementation.
  3. Monitor educational curriculum and instructional methodology to be implemented across agency school programs, adjusting program-wide practices as necessary.
  4. Support Building Principal at the Elmwood location in his or her efforts to ensure appropriate and sufficient implementation of agency-endorsed educational curriculum and instructional methodology across classrooms.
  5. Respond to substandard implementation of educational curriculum and instruction with plans of correction.
  6. Ensure that all current Federal and New York State laws that apply to the education of students 5-21 with disabilities are fully implemented and adhered to in all school settings.
  7. Ensure that all school settings comply with department, agency and State Education Department (SED) policy on incident reporting and protection of students from mistreatment and abuse.
  8. Protect educational records and other information in compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  9. Maintain a comprehensive system for the monitoring and oversight of the Autism Services, Inc. Education Program, adjusting departmental policies and procedures as needed.
  10. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the purpose of providing direction and complying with mandated requirements for the education programs.
  11. Coordinate interaction between Autism Services, Inc. school programs and school districts with whom we contract.
  12. Monitor and facilitate interaction between parents, school staff, and Building Principals regarding students' educational services. Help parents who have questions regarding aspects of education programming.
  13. Collaborates and meets with staff for the purpose of implementing and/ or maintaining quality services/ programs.
  14. Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports at least annually.
  15. Participate in meetings and committees as needed (e.g., Special Review Committee, Risk Management Committee, Policy and Procedure Committee, Parent-Teacher Conferences, etc.).
  16. Hire education administrators in conjunction with Chief Executive Officer.
  17. Provide support and training to those under your supervision.
  18. Establish and maintain standards for admission and intake to ensure that students will achieve maximum benefit from placement at Autism Services, Inc.
  19. Establish and maintain standards and policies for facility safety and security.
  20. Responsible for oversight of school program child nutrition program and all related requirements.
  21. Coordinate and implement professional development activities and initiatives designed to invest in the growth of all school staff members.
  22. Follow all agency policies, procedures, rules and applicable regulations. Administer policies and procedures throughout education program.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Education.
  • New York State Certification as School District Leader (SDL or SDA) or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Five years of experience in teaching, student services, or pupil personnel services preferred.
  • Two years of administrative experience preferred.
