POSITION TITLE: Literacy Curriculum Resource Teacher/Reading Coach

ASSIGNMENT: Literacy Curriculum Resource Teacher/Reading Coach


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. A valid Florida educator's certificate.
  2. Three (3) years of successful experience in teaching.
  3. Knowledge of curriculum and/or discipline program design, implementation and evaluation in the assigned area as reflected in job performance assessments.
  4. Physical Requirements: Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
  5. Satisfactory clearance of a Criminal History Records check and drug screening.


ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates holding Reading Endorsement or Reading Certification preferred

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Works with classroom teachers at school-base, for modeling of best practices lessons and providing professional development

  2. Learning Environment:
    • Helps create an environment of literacy conducive to effective instruction
    • Establishes a rapport and maintains construction interaction with individuals/groups
    • Models behavior which depicts respect and a feeling for the dignity and worth of others regardless of race, creed, culture, or economic group
    • Demonstrates ability to use teacher/student time efficiently
    • Maintains instructional momentum in classroom modeling and in professional development sessions

  3. Knowledge and Use of Reading Expertise:
    • Demonstrates an understanding of best practices in the areas of rand and encourages teachers to apply these before, during, and after reading
    • Maintains a collection of professional reading/learning materials which reflect current research
    • Attends ongoing educational inservices/conferences to enhance knowledge of current research

  4. Planning Assistance for Instruction:
    • Assists teachers in planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of instruction
    • Facilitates the integration of reading skills/strategies/technology into the classroom
    • Assists teachers in the evaluation of diagnostic results and future instruction based on those results

  5. Professional Development:
    • Demonstrates the ability to present reading as a process rather than a series of skills and encourages lifelong learning
    • Conducts meaningful and well-planned professional development
    • Models techniques for effective delivery of instruction in reading classrooms (co-teaching)
    • Provides inservice and follow-up coaching to teachers

  6. Assessment:
    • Assists in the administration and interpretation of reading progress monitoring and diagnostics
    • Keeps accurate records of student scores
    • Assists in formal and informal assessments and interpretation of results
    • Works with teachers to design instruction as a result of progress monitoring and diagnostic results

  7. Related Professional Responsibilities:
    • Maintains and promptly submits accurate, completes, and correct records and required reports as required by law, by grant regulations, by district policy, and administrative regulations
    • Serves as a member on curriculum leadership team, reading leadership team, and other pertinent committees
    • Communicates written and/or oral information on a given topic in a coherent and logical manner
    • Establishes rapport with faculty and staff
    • Encourages literacy and lifelong learning
    • Upholding school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies
    • Attends and participates in all required meetings
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator

TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

APPRAISAL:

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies

PAY GRADE:

According to the School Board of Highlands County Instructional Salary Schedule
