This position is for a long-term substitute home-based teacher for a Grade 2 classroom. To excel in this role, the applicant should have in-depth knowledge of effective teaching practices that ensure learning is a comfortable and meaningful experience.
The Grade 2 educator is the primary teacher for students in the subjects of health, language arts, math, and social studies. The Grade 2 teacher creates and administers a classroom program that is conducive to student learning, and which emphasizes mutual respect for all people.
The ideal candidate will be energized by working collaboratively with colleagues in a multi-age setting. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for teaching and social/emotional wellness of young school students and their families along with a deep commitment to equity and inclusion. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools is essential.

Essential functions of the long-term substitute teacher include but are not limited to:
- Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
- Following procedures and achieving lesson goals.
- Assigning and explaining homework.
- Supervising students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways.
- Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times.
- Taking attendance and documenting daily notes.
- Ensuring the classroom and work areas are kept clean and orderly.
- Overseeing the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
- Compiling a report for the teacher when they return.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
- Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use.
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.
- Bachelor's degree, Elementary Education teaching certificate is preferred.
- Strong teaching ability; enjoy working with children.
- Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the ASH community.
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
