Horning Middle School is seeking a 6-8th grade Business Education and AVID Elective Teacher. The courses the candidate will teach include: Leadership & Service, Keyboarding, AVID 8, AVID 7, and Touch of Business. The AVID classes are everyday and the others operate on an A/B day schedule. The AVID Elective Teacher is a skilled educator grounded in relationships. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an academic acceleration system that aims to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year colleges and careers. The AVID elective curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, notetaking, and study skills. Horning Middle School has a school-wide house model to meet the academic and social emotional needs of learners. The ideal candidate is interested in providing inclusive practices as a part of a team-oriented culture. This involves planning quality instruction, executing purposeful lessons, and evaluating student-learning outcomes to inform future instructional decisions. Candidates should also have a passion for modeling positive contributions to the school culture through high expectations. An interest in working with diverse students and families is required. Non-traditional applicants and Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply. Business Education license/experience preferred, but not required. Substitute teacher license holders will be considered. Current Long Term Substitute Teacher rate schedule: 1-20 Consecutive school days in a single assignment: $130/day 21+ Consecutive school days in a single assignment: $170/day
