Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds around Anchorage School District facilities. The technician reports to a department lead in a location subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must be 18 years or older.
  3. Two years of experience within the past five years in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment.
  4. An Alaska class A commercial driver's license with the endorsements of air brake test and tank vehicle test.
  5. The following are preferred:
  1. Two years of experience in the field of grounds maintenance.
  2. Experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks required.

Essential Job Functions
Routinely works under the supervision of craft specialists on one or more of the following tasks:
  1. Removes snow and sand from Anchorage School District parking lots, fire lanes, loading docks, and driveways.
  2. Performs landscaping duties, including using a riding lawn mower.
  3. Repairs and installs signs and fences.
  4. Maintains and repairs concrete and asphalt.
  5. Routinely works at heights over 10 feet.
  6. Writes reports as needed.
  7. Proficiently uses appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.
  8. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
  9. Works within established safety procedures.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
