General Statement of Duties

Vacancy posting is open until filled. This is a 260-days, 8 hours/day exempt position within the Communications Department. The minimum annual salary is $53,277.49 (Note: The salary for this position will be prorated based upon the official start date).
To assist school officials in developing and implementing positive public relations programs. Works closely with the assistant director and chief of communications in developing materials, online and social media content and other programs and campaigns to serve the public relations needs of the school division.

Essential Duties

  • Manages school division's social media platforms and has oversignt of live social media events.
  • Assists schools in the creation and management of official school social media accounts.
  • Writes content for a broad array of communications media, including multimedia news releases, social media posts, division websites and e-newsletters.
  • Writes and edits content for the school division website to ensure consistency with department style, and works with web developers and department representatives to make timely updates.
  • Works in collaboration with the divisions graphic designer to assist in the creation of graphics, flyers, or other digital/print materials, as needed.
  • Serves as a school division photographer, covering events and programs for social media and publications.
  • Contributes to and helps to maintain photo archives for use by the Division of Communications and other departments for presentations and publications and updates photos as necessary.
  • Serves as a Division of Communications liaison to other departments and committees to facilitate projects as needed.
  • Completes other duties and takes on additional resonsibilities as assigned.
  • Attends work daily and is engaged and on task. Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Must have considerable knowledge of journalism, editing, photography, design and graphics, and be able to organize and communicate information using a variety of media. Must have extensive knowledge and experience with social media usage, strategy and platforms, including analytics and management tools. Must have experience professional-grade digital photograpy, including editing with Adobe Suite. Must have excellent writing and editing skills, including familiarity with Associated Press Style. Must have the ability to edit using web-based tools such as content management systems and e-newsletter tools; a solid track record with meeting deadlines; and the ability to plan independently, coordinate and carry through to completion of multiple competing projects.

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, graphic design or related field; Minimum of three years experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
