Center-Based K-12 School-Aged Program, ages 5-21

About the Position
The Licensed Occupational Therapist or Limited Permit Holder in Occupational Therapy will provide occupational therapy and evaluations to a caseload of students ranging in ages from 5-21 years old as part of the students' Clinical Team. Areas addressed included, but are not limited to, activities of daily living, sensory integration, fine motor, gross motor, visual motor, and vocational skills. They will work in collaboration with speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, special education teachers, nursing, and positive behavioral support specialists to provide high quality services to the students throughout their school day. This position will also take part in the development of the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP). May also provide clinical oversight to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) as needed. This oversight may include but not be limited to co-signatures and/ or observation of therapy sessions as well as any other "Under the Direction of Requirements" as outlined by Medicaid Regulations in addition to oversight regulations outlined by the New York State Office of the Professions. Licensed Occupational Therapist or Limited Permit Holder in Occupational Therapy Responsibilities

  • Assess individual skill areas including, but not limited to, fine motor, sensory, and activities of daily living (ADL) skills.
  • Plan for and implement individual and group therapy sessions for the students to meet individual mandates.
  • Develop written goals and objectives to be part of the overall Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Document progress daily with progress notes, and record progress in quarterly reports, annual reports and summaries according to requirements and submitted by due dates.
  • Follow-up with classroom teachers, parents, support staff, aides and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) (COTAs) on progress of goals, problems areas, and carryover of possible interventions to maximize functional independence.
  • In-service and model effective techniques in sensory integration and implementation of activities of daily living (ADL) programs to teachers and other staff.
  • Consult, as needed, administration and support staff (i.e. social workers, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, school nurse, etc.). Attend and participate actively in pupil staffing, parent conferences, and scheduled team meetings as therapy schedule permits.
  • Strive to improve upon professional abilities by keeping informed of new materials, techniques, and theories. Attend continuing educational opportunities to maintain New York State licensure and National Board Certification as an Occupational Therapist (NBCOT).
  • Provide "Under the Direction of" oversight for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) (COTAs) as needed.
  • Keep accurate attendance that is in accordance with daily progress notes and follow Medicaid guidelines.
  • Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations, including Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention - Revised (SCIP-R) certification as per regulatory guidelines.

Licensed Occupational Therapist or Limited Permit Holder in Occupational Therapy Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy.
  • New York State License to practice occupational therapy and current registration.
  • National Board Certification as an Occupational Therapist (NBCOT).
  • New York State Limited Permit to practice Occupational Therapy if not yet licensed.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position when performing the following: standing, walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling and climbing.
  • Limited Permit candidates considered.
