Title: Summer School Principal/Coordinator

Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, demonstrated ability to take on leadership roles in a K-12 school; Master's degree from an accredited university; Appropriate Oregon administrative license; Bilingual preferred; Previous experience working in a diverse elementary and secondary setting; Valid driver's license; Oregon fingerprint and criminal check clearance.

Salary: $11,000

Job Goals:

This is assignment will require the summer school principal/coordinator to work intermittently (planning phase) from March-June 10, then regularly until July 31.

To facilitate the coordination of existing summer school programs in the district in order to develop an aligned program K-12 for the summer of 2023.

To use leadership, instructional, managerial, and administrative skills to ensure racial equity, academic growth and achievement, and the educational development of each and every student.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Begin the planning phase of program development for the summer school program in spring.
  • Meet with school principals to learn about current and past summer school models.
  • Follow and adhere to the guidelines and requirements of the summer school grant.
  • Work with principals and teachers to identify students.
  • Plan, implement, facilitate and evaluate summer programming
  • Supervise teachers.
  • Monitor progress and keep data on student achievement.
  • Coordinate with transportation and nutrition to provide services to students.
  • Communicate with families about the summer school program.
  • Be a point of contact for teachers, staff and community for information or in case of emergency.
  • Work between school sites to address issues with student misconduct and use restorative practices to prepare to return to class.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required:

Knowledge of curriculum, cultural competence, education code, district policies, culturally responsive teaching, restorative practices, ESL strategies and best practices, and special education processes.

Skills to appropriately manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively, and problem solve.

Abilities to sit or stand for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments; keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, and communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to develop timelines and maintain budget for multiple programs simultaneously. Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as curriculum guides, budgets, test results, labor contracts; grant applications, statutes and policies; ability to understand and generate written memorandums, employee evaluations, routine reports, and correspondence with business and public contacts. Significant physical abilities include manual dexterity, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation.
