Program Manager, Data Governance (Remote)

Position summary

NWEA has exciting and new opportunities as we are building a Data Governance team. With the Program Manager, Data Governance position, you will utilize your organizational and communication skills in combination with your data obsession to coordinate data governance development across the organization.

You will influence others by building strategic relationships and motivating others at all levels within the organization to drive NWEA's vision to create systemic change in education by delivering solutions that reveal and unlock potential wherever learning takes place.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards, and their adoption across the enterprise.
  • Lead the Data Governance Council comprised of individuals from both Technology and Business areas, to achieve their data management objectives; resolve issues escalated from Business and Technical data governance representatives.
  • Collaborate with Architecture and the Data Governance Council, provide progress reports for management, and maintain the Enterprise Data Governance Roadmap.
  • Assist in defining roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company's principal information assets.
  • Assist in defining indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements.
  • Advocate for best practices in data management by leading IT teams in the creation of useful and used data artifacts necessary to build a cohesive and trusted data and sights.
  • Represent yourself and the Data Governance Team as subject matter experts of NWEA data and information policies and management procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the organization.

Skills and abilities
  • Proven working experience as a project manager with the data or analytics market with the ability to translate business needs into actions.
  • Strong meeting facilitation and presentation skills to a variety of audiences across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to develop and communicate plans, status, and metrics related to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate meaningful information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High level understanding of data objects and technical and regulatory data management.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Advanced and developed critical thinking, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills and a commitment to communicate clearly, completely, with the ability to prioritize issues and drive them to closure.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to changing business environments and shift styles depending on the situation.

  • Advanced competency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, Visio, or Lucid Charts).

  • Must be able to perform the physical and intellectual requirements of the role, with or without accommodation.

Education and experience
  • Minimum five years' experience in data warehousing, data management, or data governance delivery using project management methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Mathematics, Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, or Computer Science; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with Informatica Cloud Services or other data catalog tool.
  • Experience with agile project management methodologies and using agile collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
  • Experience in business process reengineering or Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Experience in the K-12 Education or Assessment industry is preferred. Familiarity with education data standards (CEDS, SIF, Ed-Fi, QTI, etc.) and data security and protection laws are a plus.
