SUMMARY: Provide leadership to all Registered Nurses, Health Liaisons, Health Technicians, and delegated staff throughout the district for the Heath Services Department. Support Registered Nurses and other staff with individual student health plans, individualized education plan (IEP) health history, and 504 plan eligibility for students. Support implementation of health-related interventions in the school setting, as well as support before, during, and after medical crisis and events that occur within the school setting. Lead and coach Registered Nurses, Health Liaisons, and Health Technicians on school health practices and provide professional development updates, training, skill development, and orientations. Assist in staffing and daily assignments for Registered Nurses, Health Liaisons, and Health Technicians. Play a key role in the hiring process of Health Services Department staff. Support Registered Nurses in the implementation of delegation within respective school populations. Support health-related service delivery to districtwide populations across all schools and planning for school sponsored events, processes, policies, and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only.
  • Recruit, hire, evaluate, retain, and supervise health services staff, including Registered Nurses, Health Liaisons, and Health Technicians. Make staffing decisions, job assignments, and hire staff in accordance with District policies. Provide support to and mentor staff as needed. Develop and implement professional development trainings and opportunities for staff members. [Daily, 25%]
  • Assist building Registered Nurses, Health Liaisons, Health Technicians, and staff in locating healthcare and supports. Work with school-based teams to ensure continuity of care between school and medical home primary care providers, specialty care providers, and hospitalization providers. [Daily, 20%]
  • Consult, train, and oversee health services and promote a positive and healthy working environment in assigned feeder area and districtwide through regular formal and informal contact with assigned building-based health services staff. [Daily, 15%]
  • Lead onboarding of new staff, training, orientation, mentorship, and induction courses. Present job requirements to nurses new to Cherry Creek Schools in nurse orientation trainings and work one-on-one with new hires in the clinic setting to coach in all aspects of school nursing. Assess and ensure progress of new hires toward proficiency in practice by providing feedback, support, additional training, and assistance with goal setting. [Daily, 10%]
  • Collaborate with special education coordinators, school teams, and district teams to assist in conducting various levels of health-related interventions, orders, and needs with emphasis on aiding to provide the student with the least restrictive environment and decrease in health-related barriers to learning, academic, and goal growth success. [Daily, 10%]
  • Facilitate peer support networking among Office of Student Health staff. [Daily, 5%]
  • Work with established schools of nursing and district nurses to place nursing students in a clinical setting as indicated by the individual program requirements. [Daily, 5%]
  • Collaborate with student outreach, Title I, McKinney-Vento, Home Hospital, Safety and Security, Legal, and local emergency services and law enforcement as needed for life-threatening medical events, mandatory reporting process, and safety planning, training, and implementation. [Daily, 5%]
  • Maintain clear communication across district departments and students, parents/guardians, and staff. [Daily, 5%]
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or similar field.
  • Five (5) years of school-based school nursing experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act and applicability to the specialty practice of School Nursing.
  • Extensive experience in delegation to UAP and ability to transfer experience to instruction of novice and experienced Registered Nurses.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite.
  • Advanced knowledge of office equipment such as phones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.

  • Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Professional Special Service Provider (SSP) School Nurse license.
  • Colorado driver's license.
  • Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Nationally Certified School Nurse® (NCSN) certification.
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
