Job Summary
The Curricular Materials Distribution Clerk inventories, checks in, refurbishes, and prepares curricular materials adopted for use in Anchorage School District pre K-12 classrooms. The clerk reports to a director of Teaching & Learning or their designee. This position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.

The following are preferred:
  1. Knowledge of office practices, procedures, office machines, and filing or inventory systems.
  2. Knowledge of basic science concepts including life, earth, and physical science.
  3. Ability to type, alphabetize, and sort materials rapidly and accurately.
  4. Ability to do accurate and detailed work.
  5. Ability to organize workload efficiently during non-peak work times.
  6. Ability to work with teachers and other school personnel effectively in person or by phone.
  7. Ability to design a system of materials handling and a work plan that will result in delivery of materials within tight timelines.
  8. Ability to stay focused and organized during peak workloads.
  9. Ability to lift stock and move materials around the curriculum center and immediate warehouse area.
  10. Ability to learn procedures and to interpret procedures to others.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Schedules science kits and audio-visual materials and equipment for use by Anchorage School District teachers and staff.
  2. Refurbishes curricular materials (to include but not limited to, science kits, student learning materials, and teachers resources) including the replacement of expended materials, chemicals, and surplus items.
  3. Sorts and prepares for delivery via intra-district mail or delivery.
  4. Maintains and restocks books, manipulatives, chemicals, live specimens, and other consumable materials.
  5. Operates computerized media booking system and audio-visual equipment.
  6. Trains personnel in the use and care of audio-visual equipment.
  7. Explains rules and regulations to the public.
  8. Records and prioritizes incoming requests.
  9. Efficiently organizes kit supplies and materials and own workspace.
  10. Checks in science kits and other materials as they are returned on pallets to the curriculum center.
  11. Refurbishes materials within specified timeframes.
  12. Organizes curricular materials and science kits for distribution on pallets to return to schools.
  13. Inventories supplies of materials in each returned kit and reports inventory needs to lead administrative assistant for ordering.
  14. Cooperates with other clerks to receive and distribute curricular materials.
  15. Works cooperatively with all curricular materials staff to ensure inventory and distribution across ASD.
  16. Collaborates with the curricular materials manager and Teaching and Learning leadership, ensuring smooth operational functioning and scheduling of materials requests and supports throughout ASD.
  17. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.

Physical/Mental Demands
  • This position routinely requires lifting up to 60 pounds, with or without accommodation, and may require lifting over 60 pounds with assistance.
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
