Essex Westford School District is seeking a Library Assistant (Library Technical Assistant ll) at Essex High School (EHS) for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year. This position oversees, coordinates, and performs a wide range of paraprofessional and technical support tasks relating to EHS library functions.

Primary job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan, supervise, coordinate, and monitor the daily operations of assigned instructional and technical functions. Play a key role in assessing and planning library-operating policies and procedures related to assigned functions.
  • Provide students and faculty with a wide range of library instruction and reference services.
  • Teach library orientation classes; instruct classes in research methods; instruct and assist students and teachers in use of our virtual library, OPAC, and other resources; teach information technology skills to individuals and groups.
  • Provide reading and research guidance to students and faculty; Keep faculty apprised of new materials and stay abreast of curriculum offerings and faculty needs.
  • Catalog books, e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs in the library: Review records, making any necessary changes to meet local library standards; complete original or adaptive cataloging as needed where no information is available, and enter online files. Investigate and resolve cataloging issues, directing difficult or unusual situations to the head librarian.
  • Assist head librarian in general library planning, promotion and development efforts.
  • Assist in inventories of library collections and perform similar technical support tasks associated with library operations.
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, or other appropriate discipline plus two to four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Experience and proficiency with computer applications, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
