Current certification in Braille Competency by the Colorado Department of Education
High school diploma or GED
Preferred:
1 year and up to and including 2 years of experience in keyboarding, general office duties and working with children with special needs

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Summary/Objective:
Responsible for assisting the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) with students who are blind or visually impaired, including transcribing print materials into Braille, interlining, preparing tactile graphics to represent visual stimuli and pictures, enlarging materials, working with students one-on-one and/or in small groups to reinforce academic and functional skills; and supporting students in classroom settings. Also responsible for accompanying students on field trips, assisting students with orientation and mobility and daily living skills. Performs some office duties including ordering materials and keeping inventory for the vision department and individual students. May assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.
Essential Functions:
Knowledge of vehicle identification. Ability to work with people. Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions. Excellent vision, smell, touch, coordination, arm-hand movement, and balance. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Ability to recognize and remember as many students as possible. Ability to be involved in the handling of physical crises such as: fights, assaults. Use of analytical thinking in problem solving. Ability to concentrate on a task. Good judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to perform all functions of the position.
