Job Summary:

The Scholar Support Specialist (SSS) works every day, with guidance from the school leadership, ensuring that classrooms are effective learning environments that respect the inherent worth, ability, and potential of every student.

Key Job Elements:
  • Meet weekly with tertiary students reviewing grades, attendance, and ODRs.
  • Meet with secondary kids from screen. Using group and mentor meetings.
  • Provide behavioral information for the development of support plans.
  • Play an active role in upholding school-wide students expectations including, but not limited to: assisting in reteaching expectations to individual and groups of students, participating in recognition assemblies, expectation reset days, etc.
  • Reactionary counselor for students struggling with immediate interpersonal issues with the teacher or other students.
  • Serve as a support for implementation of classroom expectations for teachers receiving targeted classroom coaching.
  • In class support for classrooms with over 3-4 tertiary students in the class at least 2x per week.
  • Provide classroom and/or small group lessons dealing with prevention of problem behaviors.
  • Participate in weekly data meetings regarding target students with the Climate and Community Coach.
  • Meet with any student(s) who served a suspension and develop a plan to restore the appropriate behavior prior to the student re-joining the school community. Communicate the aforementioned plan to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure therapeutic rapport occurs between the student and all stakeholders before rejoining the school community.
  • Extensive conflict resolution between students who are having disagreements.
  • Support teachers in student/teacher mediation to help classroom relationships.
  • Active supervision and coaching of appropriate expectations during arrival and dismissal, all hallway transitions, lunch and recess and as assigned by the principal.
  • Document meetings with students in Skyward or on Counseling Log Sheets.
  • Ensure the well being of a student exhibiting at risk behaviors by utilizing protective immobilization/restraint techniques. (Only Staff trained through CPI will perform immobilization/restraint techniques)
  • Manages/maintains student to student mentorship programs.
  • Reports to the Principal and can be assigned duties by Climate and Community Coach.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications & Skills:

Education or training required to perform the role.
  • BA in education, psychology, and/or other human services field is preferred. A combination of education and years of transferrable experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
Minimum years of experience required.
  • One year of experience working with school-aged students.
Qualifications/skills needed to handle the responsibilities of the position.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products including Word and Excel
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong relationship building skills
Preferred:

Qualifications or skills that would be beneficial to have, but that are not essential to the job.
  • BA in psychology, education, and/or other human services field.
  • Experience in positive behavior support plans.
  • Experience with School-Wide Positive Supports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Superior ability to quantify anecdotal and numerical student behavior data.
  • 3+ years experience working with students with social/emotional challenges.
  • Experience with google drive applications.
  • Experience with student accounting systems (Skyward, Prosoft, etc.)
  • Experience as a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support CORE team member.
  • PDE Teacher, School Social Worker, or School Counselor certification(s)
