SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

The City School District of New Rochelle is seeking candidates with proven, top-notch credentials who are able to provide visionary and aspirational leadership. The successful candidate must be ready to continue the strong progress that the current Superintendent and his administrative team have established and must demonstrate the ability to provide next-frontier levels of leadership and strategies that advance achievement for all of our students.

Reports To: The Board of Education

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer, is in charge with implementing the policies of the Board, and is responsible for administration of the School District.

The Superintendent shall suggest policies deemed necessary for the effective functioning of the School District and implement regulations, rules and procedures to support established policies.

The Superintendent shall have the authority to organize, reorganize and arrange the administrative and supervisory staff, including, without limitation, instruction and business affairs, which, in his/her judgment, best serve the School District, subject to the approval of the Board of Education.

The responsibility for the placement and transfer of personnel shall be vested in the Superintendent of Schools; hiring, termination and tenure shall be subject to the approval of the Board of Education.

The Superintendent is a visible presence in the schools to underscore that the most important interactions that occur are in the classrooms.

The Superintendent provides the Board with the information analysis, and sound professional advice it needs to formulate policy and monitor operations of the District.

The Superintendent creates and sustains a climate of collegiality among members of the staff and parent body.

Possesses excellent people skills, presents a positive image of the District and will listen to input and make a decision when necessary.

Possesses the leadership skills required to respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by an ethnically and culturally diverse community.

Inspires trust, has high levels of self-confidence and optimism, and models high standards of integrity and personal performance.

Is a strong communicator -- speaking, listening and writing.

Possesses experience in recruiting and maintaining exceptional staff for the District and schools.

Is strongly committed to a "student-first" philosophy in all decisions.

Is able to develop and communicate a vision of quality education for the future to the Board of Education, staff and community, with successful experience in the selection and implementation of educational priorities consistent with the interests and needs of students, staff, board and community. Is able to identify and select building and central administrators capable of advancing that vision.

Possesses the ability to enhance student performance, especially in identifying and closing or narrowing gaps in student achievement.

Promotes a positive and professional environment for District employees and the Board.

Displays a commitment to and has experience dealing with all genders, races and socio-economic groups.

Demonstrates a commitment to community visibility with high interest in a broad range of community groups and organizations.

Is capable of developing both short and long range District goals.

Classroom experience preferred, but not required.

Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master's degree and New York State School Business Administrator (SBA), School District Business Leader (SDBL), School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL), certificate at the time of appointment. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in an educational setting.
