Position Summary:

Job Experience Training (JET) Coaches supervise students and young adults with disabilities in a non-paid/paid vocational programs in a business facility away from the Program or School site to enable the students to gain employable skills. Duties include, but are not limited to training students in the following domains: community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.

Position Details:
  • Under the supervision of the Teacher and Director, implement curriculum (including all on-site and community-based instruction) consistent with the students' transition plan to meet students' goals and objectives.
  • Performs job coaching duties as assigned, by assisting in the training of students or young adults in the community or in job sites in appropriate work behavior and specific skills.
  • Consults with the Teacher and Director on the progress of students and the implementation of instructional/vocational plans.
  • Consistently models appropriate work maturity skills including but not limited to modeling professional working relationships with business partners and agencies.
  • Assists Teacher and Director for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing students' vocational skills.
  • Assists students and young adults with disabilities in one-on-one or small group situations on skills related to performing specific job tasks.
  • Supports students and young adults with disabilities develop interpersonal skills necessary in the workplace.
  • Assists Teacher and Director in assessing the student's strengths and needs as it relates to vocational skills, social skills, independent living skills, etc.
  • Ensures safety is maintained in the work or community environment at all times through close observation and monitoring of students, maintaining close physical proximity, remaining alert at all times, and using analytical forethought to proactively intervene in potentially unsafe situations.
  • Coordinates employer and Program partners for the purpose of meeting the work education objectives.
  • Counsels students in job search skills for the purpose of informing them of employment and career options.
  • Monitors student performance in a variety of work sites according to Program guidelines (e.g., visit job sites, obtains employer evaluations, serves as a liaison between employer and student, etc.) for the purpose of identifying areas requiring additional training on techniques and methods for maintaining solid work habits.
  • Monitors student performance in a variety of community settings to assist students in developing functional and daily living skills.
  • Collects, records, and maintains data required by student programs as assigned by the Teacher and/or Director.
  • Transports students, using a Program vehicle, to and from the work site and/or community site.
  • Tutors students in vocational skills (e.g., work requirements, interviewing skills, self-determination, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for employment.
  • Complies with all company policies/procedures and regulatory requirements and reports any known or suspected violations to his/her supervisor or through other means identified in company policy.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Assures cleanliness and orderliness of the Program by assisting in cleaning, filing, and preparing materials. Assists in all security, maintenance, and safety functions as required for the overall facility.
  • Participates as a team member and promote a positive work environment by demonstrating cooperation, compromise, and appropriate expression of opinion and by treating others with consideration, courtesy, and respect.
  • Assists with other classroom or work site functions and special assignments as directed, including but not limited to, substitute teaching.
  • Assists with the planning and preparation of educational materials and activities.
