CLASS TITLE : Home and Hospital Tutor (CONTRACTUAL)

REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Home and Hospital Program

DEFINITION : Delivers instructional services to public school students who are unable to attend school due to a medical or emotional condition or, are on home assignment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
  • Provides tutoring services to BCPS students in all core content areas using BCPS curriculum.
  • Acts as a liaison between the parents, students and Home and Hospital office.
  • Instructs and supervises students in a variety of settings.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Implements lesson plans and instruction using BCPS curriculum.
  • Maintains academic and attendance records.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information pertaining to students, parents/guardians/and staff.
  • Conducts oneself in a business-like and professional manor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience:
Proof of a four year degree from an accredited college/university.
Experience working with students Pre-K through grade 12 preferred.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of a valid Maryland driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of effective instructional techniques. Knowledge of instructional materials.
Skill in instructing students. Skill in communicating with students, teachers, administrators, and others.
Technology competency. Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications. Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to properly maintain confidential information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
Work requires travel throughout Baltimore County.
Must be willing to work in all areas of Baltimore County.
Requires some lifting and transporting of materials.
May require use of steps when visiting outside locations.

SALARY : $ 40.10 per hour

Conditions of Employment:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $106.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
