Small Equipment Maintenance & Repair Technician

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of services and specialty functions in the support of Warehousing, Custodial, HVAC and Environmental and Sustainability departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintains and keeps appropriate records and logs, of custodial, HVAC and environmental air quality equipment. • Completes preventative maintenance of all custodial equipment such as wet vacs, low and high-speed buffers, carpet vacuums, carpet extractors dehumidifiers and fans, and HVAC and environmental equipment such as air purifiers and portable cooling units. • Obtains price quotes, orders and receives parts and supplies; identifies vendors; makes arrangements for delivery or pickup for special equipment and supplies for related materials and equipment in accordance with established guidelines and regulations. • Installs, repairs and trains custodial staff on use of chemical dilution stations and SDS materials. • Assist with training custodians on use of all custodial equipment. • Maintain and provide minor repairs to trucks, vans, and warehouse equipment • Enters time and supplies in computerizes system to respond to and complete work orders. • Responds to and assists during plumbing emergencies at schools. • Completes monthly extinguisher inspections. • Completes preventative maintenance on dock doors and dock plates and repairs as needed • Repairs surplus furniture and disassembles damaged furniture tagged for disposal. • Coordination of recycling of fluorescent bulbs for the district. • Assists with stripping and waxing floors and cleaning carpets during special projects or as needed. • Responds to and participates in the district's facilities snow removal process (deliver and spread salt) • Maintains records of warranty and coordinates warranty claims. • May respond to security/alarm calls after hours on an as-needed basis. • May open/secure warehouse/building. • May assist with the distribution and set up of materials and equipment for the school system. • May assist heavy good movers with special projects such as setting for job fairs and other special events. • Maintain positive working relationship with school administrators, staff, and custodial personnel. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Demonstrated knowledge of the assigned service area: delivery/ warehousing and equipment/small engine/motor repair. • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision once the job is learned. • Ability to maintain records, logs, and written materials to support assigned work activities.

• Ability to operate equipment or machines assigned to the position which may include a computerized inventory records and ordering system. • Ability to communicate effectively in oral or written forms. • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships school officials, school personnel, vendors, coworkers, and the general public, as required in the position. • Ability to follow instructions and organize work duties accordingly. • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work to meet needed deadlines. • Ability to plan and organize the work of others when engaged in supervision or coordination of custodial staff. • Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet using a powered platform lift. • Knowledge of basic computer skills to include basic operation. Ability to learn to access mainframe AS400 and/or related programs. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum: High School Diploma/GED PLUS three years of experience in a related position (warehouse/inventory work, automotive parts, administrative support, equipment repair, electrical knowledge or purchasing services); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: • Position of a valid appropriate North Carolina driver's license • Ability to manually lift heavy objects for a sustained period. • Obtain/maintain Forklift Certification. • Manual dexterity to complete repairs on small equipment using hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
