Position Overview

This is work providing instructional assistance to students under the direction of the Summer Math Discovery Program Coordinator or Dean. Summer Math Discovery Program Teacher Assistants, serve as mentors to students, supervise students, facilitate activities, support running logistics for the program, and provide instructional support in classes. Experienced workers in these positions will engage with students socially and mathematically and have a knowledge of and excitement for mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Implement designated portions of lesson plans
• Engage with students in classroom activities
• Mentor and supervise students through the summer program
• Plan and facilitate mathematics and non-mathematics related activities
• Perform related work as required

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, supplemented by course work in child development or related field, and experience working with children; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
• Ability to work effectively with children; to carry out designated instructional assignments properly; to supervise student behavior and activities; to perform general clerical work
• Good human relations and communication skills

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

This part-time hourly position reports to the Supervisor of Mathematics in Teaching and Learning.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This is a part-time, non-benefited, hourly position. No guarantee of minimum hours

Hours: 7:30 - 3:30

Dates: June 1 & 6 (3:30 pm - 5:00pm) Professional Development

June 13 & 14 Professional Development Days

• In addition to the dates above, all Summer Math Discovery Program Staff will be required to complete an asynchronous virtual training before June 13th.

June 15 - July 20 Summer Math Discovery Program

• The program will not run July 3-7
