Note, this position will teach PE/Health part-time at King Elementary and Full Circle Learning. This position will also work as a District Coach part-time.

Qualifications
  1. Instructional II Certificate in Health and Physical Education
  2. Master's Degree preferred
  3. At least 5 years experience teaching Health and/or Physical Education
  4. Deep knowledge of relevant academic standards, contents, and pedagogy
  5. Experience in mentoring and/or coaching teachers
  6. Demonstrated excellence in teaching practice (Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction, Professional Responsibilities)
  7. Adept at using differentiated instructional strategies with experience in addressing the needs of students with IEPs and English Learners
  8. Ability to apply current research, methods and trends in health and physical education
  9. Experience working with culturally diverse students and staff while demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of others.
  10. Experience providing professional development to adult learners
  11. Ability to work effectively with limited supervision
  12. Willingness to work collaboratively with Coordinators and Coaches to integrate health and physical education across the curriculum and embed the use of instructional technology across the curriculum
  13. Strong written and oral communications skills, and demonstrated use of technology to communicate as appropriate
  14. Interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate high- quality training and provide coaching support for peers
  15. Willingness to participate in training opportunities
  16. Commitment to maintain confidentiality
  17. Ability to work collaboratively with central office and school staff to support the district wellness policy

Job Goal:
To facilitate the goals and objectives of the SDoL through improved achievement and growth in PreK-12 Health and Physical Education by supporting district curriculum and professional development, and by providing coaching that ensures high quality instruction for all students, enabling students to adopt healthy lifestyles and pursue lifelong fitness and wellness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Work collaboratively with Coordinator to develop and implement district curriculum and professional development initiatives in HPE, which includes the following;
    1. Lead the development and revision of district curriculum documents that are aligned with PA and national standards;
    2. Analyze data to identify root cause issues, make curriculum adjustments and plan for professional development needs;
    3. Plan, facilitate and participate in district professional development and training designed to increase content knowledge; pedagogy; integration of literacy across the curriculum; embedded use of instructional technology across the curriculum; coaching; and facilitating professional development for adult learners;
    4. Plan for school-embedded professional development that is aligned with district initiatives;
    5. Ensure that curriculum meets state and federal requirements;
    6. Improve two-way communication between central office and school staff;
    7. Promote positive relationships between central office and school staff.
  2. Assist the Coordinator:
    1. In the development, revision and implementation of the PreK-12 Health and Physical Education curriculum;
    2. In identifying, developing, and providing coaching and professional development on the use of best literacy practices across the curriculum;
    3. In creation, revision, and management of any HPE district assessments;
  3. Work in schools to provide training and coaching support for teachers and to support the Principal in implementing district HPE curriculum and professional development initiatives, which includes the following;
    1. Planning and Preparation (Curriculum and Assessment Focus)
      1. Provide training and support to increase teachers' content knowledge; pedagogy; integration of literacy across the curriculum; and embedded use of instructional technology across the curriculum;
      2. Provide training and support to increase teachers' understanding and use of district curriculum and professional development initiatives;
      3. Provide support for developing lesson plans that align with the district curriculum and reflect the needs of the students, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners
      4. Provide support for aligning assessments with instructional goals and standards, the development of scoring guides and rubrics, and using assessment results to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
    2. Classroom Environment
      1. Support teachers in creating learning environments with high expectations for student achievement;
      2. Support teachers in establishing rules and procedures to more effectively manage student behavior in classrooms;
      3. Support mentors with meeting the needs of new teachers.
    3. Instruction
      1. Provide modeling and coaching support in classrooms to assist teachers with more effective delivery of district curriculum and professional development initiatives;
      2. Provide modeling and coaching support in classrooms to assist teachers with more effective use of best practice instructional strategies; integration of literacy across the curriculum; and embedded use of instructional technology across the curriculum;
      3. Provide modeling and coaching support in classrooms to assist teachers with a higher level of thinking, questioning, and cognitive student engagement
      4. Provide modeling and coaching support in classrooms to assist teachers with more effective use of assessment to monitor progress and provide feedback to students
      5. Provide modeling and coaching support in classrooms to assist teachers with small group and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners.
      6. Serve as HPE teacher in assigned school(s) per teaching assignment.
      7. Plan, prepare, teach, and assess HPE classes as scheduled per teaching assignment(s).
    4. Professional Responsibilities
      1. Assist the Coordinator with budget planning, resource materials research and identification, fitness center maintenance and repairs, safety inspections, equipment inventory and allocation, district assessments, and reporting student progress;
      2. Share information from work with Principals and Teachers with the Coordinator, and seek input and feedback from staff;
      3. Provide targeted, non-evaluative coaching support in classrooms based on a coaching schedule that is established with the Coordinator, and maintain confidentiality;
      4. Provide district opportunities for parents to learn about curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  4. Develop instructional strategies and tools using technologies to support teachers and students.
  5. Collaborate with teachers to increase student success in, and access to, health and physical education.
  6. Work with the Coordinator and other central office staff in researching, collaborating, and obtaining outside resources through grants, partnerships, and other opportunities.
  7. Assist the Coordinator and the central office with district events and/or district assessments, as requested.
  8. Assist the Coordinator in sharing information about HPE teacher postings and participate in the interview process as requested.
  9. Assist the Coordinator and the central office with planning for after school and/or extended day/year HPE opportunities.
  10. Assist with other duties, as assigned.
