E ssential Functions and Objectives:

Denver Public Schools, in partnership with the City of Denver and community organizations, will open community hubs that will address a holistic approach to student learning through programs and services that support social, emotional, physical and academic needs of students, families and community members. The work will follow a two-generation approach , offering services for both youth and their families, with a particular focus on fostering economic self-sufficiency and family stability. While services offered will be customized to regional needs, illustrative examples include workforce development; basic needs assistance; social emotional and mental health services; classes on financial literacy, ESL, GED, Citizenship, and Early Literacy; academic tutoring and more.

T his initiative is a key component of the district's strategic plan. The hubs will be designed to support each and every student in having equitable access to their educational opportunities. Specifically, for the 2022-23 school year, the district plans to have six hubs in operation that target younger learners and their families as well as one center targeting Pathways high school students. Long-term the district will use learnings from year one to support all students and their families in each region. The community hubs will also serve as a regional point of coordination for how to deploy the full resources of the city and our communities to support youth in our school buildings, where appropriate.

T he Community Engagement Specialist (CES) will be based out of an assigned Community Hub and is central to supporting and strengthening the link between community-based organizations, businesses, faith communities, and philanthropic groups to schools, communities, and families. The CES supports the systems-driven approach to case management for the multi-generation services offered to participants out of the community hub. Responsibilities include creating a welcoming and safe environment for all community hub participants by building positive relationships; partnering with participants to identify and work towards their long-term goals for family stability; connecting community members with wraparound services to support them in building skills and accessing resources; and utilizing community hub practices, procedures, and data systems to deliver high-quality customer service and demonstrate program outcomes.

The Community Engagement Specialist is expected to:

- Serve as case manager of community hub students. Follow systems and structures to ensure participants have access to post-secondary education or long-term employment.

- Support participant caseload for case management of follow-up services to ensure community hub student and family success in achieving self-sufficiency goals. Perform daily data collection and program implementation for community hub participants.

- Complete community hub intake, follow-up, and satisfaction survey processes with participants.

- Employ knowledge of cultural competencies, encourage and accommodate a variety of learning and participation styles, building on staff and community members' strengths. Draw upon the experiences of participants or collaborators to include diverse perspectives in any given intervention. Positively collaborate with the community hub and school staff members to ensure high-quality delivery of services.

- Work collaboratively with FACE staff to implement research-based systems to serve families with high-quality customer service and individualized support for family and student success.

- Support program data entry for community hub services and participants. Serve as a community hub team member, providing program support for multi-generation services for adults and youth with engagement in long-term sustainable employment and other individualized services.

- Support systems for quality control aligned with grant compliance for community hub data collection and operations. Support daily operations and program support of the community hub, including daily phone calls and responding to voicemails. Assisting walk-in participants and scheduling appointments. Lead basic needs services for community hub students and participants.

- Lead special events or new project initiatives to maximize center capacity and to further engage participants in services.

- Support the ongoing expansion of services offered at the community hubs. Lead outreach within regional communities and collaborate with other FACE staff to increase awareness of services offered at the community hubs.

- Work collaboratively with other community hub staff and between community hubs supporting the implementation of researched-based systems across the community hubs to ensure high-quality programming throughout Denver.

- Self-starter/leader who can anticipate departmental needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner

- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with district and school leaders, faculty, staff, partners, and students.

- Ability to set goals, work independently and drive results

- Meet regularly with the community hub team to engage in professional development and to support best practices for the engagement of participants. Engage in skills training across the department to ensure quality control and efficiency when working with grant-driven programs.

- Be available to serve some weekend and evening events.

- Other duties as assigned.

K nowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- Three (3) or more years of related experience.

- Bilingual preferred.

- Demonstrated proficiency with Google Suite.

- Exceptional organization and time management skills.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

- Ability to complete tasks in an interruption-driven environment.

- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances with a positive attitude.

- Ability to communicate diplomatically, persuasively, effective oral, written, and presentation skills.
