  License and Certification Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a clearance certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Teaching certification and/or advanced degree preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Must have experience as a non-commissioned officer or officer with a minimum of four years active duty.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for the development and continuous quality improvement of the Junior Leadership Corps Program by delivering program curriculum, providing necessary training, and organizing extracurricular events.

1. Provide classroom instruction.
a. Instruct cadets in the Junior Leadership Corps curriculum.
b. Instruct cadets in drill training, to officiate colors for community and sporting events, school assemblies and meetings, and as deemed appropriate by the local school administration.
c. Accomplish required school tasks and participate in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities.
d. Perform duties required of other teachers in the school.
e. Achieve the curricular requirements and learning standards of the program of instruction.
f. Attain and improve proficiency in drill and Junior Leadership Corps training.
g. Improve instruction by continuously staying abreast of new and alternative instructional and motivational techniques.
h. Counsel and mentor students on their academic performance as members of the Junior Leadership Corps.
i. Recruit and retain new students.
j. Assist in the marketing of the Junior Leadership Corps program in the school and community.

2. Facilitate student (cadet) instruction.
a. Identify specific prerequisite skills and/or knowledge necessary for students to learn the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS).
b. Plan instruction as needed to promote student mastery of prerequisite skills and knowledge.
c. Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
d. Follow written lesson plans to support instructional objectives of the AKS for all students.
e. Plan appropriate assessment of student learning.
f. Assess students' learning of the AKS.
g. Provide assessments that are appropriate for the learner(s).
h. Maintain assessment records for each student.
i. Communicate assessment results to students.
j. Utilize assessment results to plan for subsequent instruction.

3. Provide initial focus for the lesson.
a. Communicate specific learning objectives to students.
b. Link lesson content to students' prior knowledge, background experience, and/or real-world application of content.
c. Capture student attention through active involvement.
d. Evaluate cadets, enter grades, maintain equipment records, and financial records.
e. Prepare an annual Master Training Plan and develop a schedule for the year reflecting school activities and JLC objectives and activities when appropriate, including cadets in the planning phase and organize cadets and resources toward the objectives.
f. Maintain electronic student records and provide enrollment and other student reports as required by school administration.
g. Carry out logistics tasks.
h. Prepare requisitions.
i. Maintain drill equipment in accordance with regulatory guidance.

4. Organize learning environment to maximize student time on task.
a. Organize and arrange classroom to facilitate learning.
b. Ensure smooth transitions from one activity to another.
c. Maintain an orderly system for housekeeping duties such as attendance, passes, announcements, and distributing and collecting materials and homework assignments.

5. Maintain behavior which is conducive to learning.
a. Define and clearly communicate behavior expectations to students, including the merit/demerit system.
b. Monitor behavior and provide appropriate feedback to students.
c. Manage effectively with inappropriate behavior.
d. Focus on student behavior rather than personality.
e. Treat sensitive situations with discretion.
f. Encourage participation from all students.
g. Establish mutual respect between teacher and students.
h. Convey warmth, friendliness, and enthusiasm.

6. Organize extracurricular events and competitions for cadets.
a. Schedule community service opportunities for the cadets (minimum of 5 hours per semester required). Evening and weekend hours may be required.
b. Organize promotion ceremonies for cadets.
c. Organize summer camp for cadets.
d. Conduct risk assessment to mitigate the possibility of an accident for all activities and observe and enforce school safety guidelines.
e. Plan, organize, and conduct drill team and color guard instruction, evening and weekend hours may be required.
f. Supervise cadets during community service events.
g. Provide guidance and supervision for drill team responsibilities.

7. Provide professional development.
a. Participate in recurring instructor conferences and other professional development opportunities offered by the school district and local school.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
