Job Description

A dedicated, resourceful, team player with a strong work ethic is sought to serve as the Accounting Operations and Procurement Manager for Rutland City Public Schools (RCPS). RCPS is among the ten largest school districts in Vermont serving 2,000 students in grades K through 12, employing 500 employees, with an annual budget of more than $60 million.

This position is responsible for functions that keep District accounting operations and procurement running smoothly. The incumbent works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and with the District's administrative leadership team. The Manager also networks with peers across the state as a member of the Vermont Association of School Business Officials (VASBO).

Primary responsibilities:
•Prepare financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.
•Direct and provide hands on maintenance of the general ledger including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant-related fund accounting to ensure accurate and timely transaction processing and financial reporting.
•Work with services directors and administrative leads to monitor expenditures relative to annual budgets and make recommendations for achieving cost objectives.
•Assist members of the Business Office team with accounting and procurement functions by providing guidance, technical expertise, and on the job training.
•Support the Chief Financial Officer with financial analysis and controls, including annual budget preparation and coordination with public auditors.

Required skills:
•Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
•Proficiency with and the ability to learn database and accounting computer applications, including Windows 10 and the Microsoft Office Suite.
•Well versed in and the ability to learn general and financial accounting procedures.
•Ability to engage with and provide services to staff at all levels of the organization in a professional, respectful, and effective manner.
•Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, confidence, sensitivity in handling confidential information, and accountability.

Education and experience:
•Three years of experience working in a financial accounting, business, or audit position.
•Demonstrated effectiveness when engaging with colleagues in a professional, service-oriented, and positive manner.
•Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, finance, audit, or a related field.
