    SUMMARY Monitor, access and document all health situations that arise throughout the day. Administer medications and keep all medical shots and records updated.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Percentage of time may vary based on building assignment.
    (Daily= D; Monthly= M)

    D 45% Administer minor first aid to sick and injured students and staff. Prepare accident and medication incident reports and contact parents or guardians in accordance with established health office policy.
    D 20% Maintain current health and immunization records ensuring immunization compliance. Maintain all health-related records including screenings, office visits, athletic physicals, and Medicaid billing.
    D 10% Support staff to meet the health and safety needs of all students and implement all components of student health care plans.
    D 5% Assist office staff as requested.
    D 5% Administer medication to students according to district and state guidelines. Maintain records and counts on medication distributed.
    D 5% Set up vision/hearing/dental screenings and notify parents. Assist with all screenings.
    D 5% Communicate health needs of students to appropriate staff as necessary, while preserving the confidentiality and dignity of all students.
    D 2% Make referrals to the school nurse as needed and follow clinical direction of school nurse (under the supervision of the principal).
    M 2% Follow mandatory reporting requirements for cases of suspected child abuse.
    M 2% Attend professional development as required by school nurse to meet the changing health needs of all students.
    M 2% Assess inventory and re-stock clinic supplies.
    Ongoing 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent, plus training in First Aid, CPR, immunization laws and computer data entry.

    EXPERIENCE 0 - 2 years experience in general office, computer and data entry skills.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Basic math, writing, communication, data management and clerical skills.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS Active certification in First Aid, CPR and medication certification are required continuously during employment. Note: These trainings are provided through the district.

    SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING Work is delegated by School Nurse and guided by state laws and other District policies/procedures. Decision making requires collaboration with School Nurse, principal and/or other staff. Supervisor is always involved in decision making.

    SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS Medium exposure to minor injury such as bruises, cuts and scrapes due to student behavior. Medium exposure to hernia due to lifting. High exposure to illness due to sick children. High exposure to repetitive motion or stress due to computer work.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    MENTAL FUNCTIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, communicate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate. Frequently required to copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize and evaluate.
