Essex High School is seeking an English Language Arts teacher beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. Course assignments are expected to include Grades 10, 11, and 12 English classes, but this is subject to change. The position is expected to be full-time.

EWSD is committed to considering out-of-state candidates who are eligible to hold a Vermont educator license but do not yet hold a license in this state. Candidates with experience working in another country and the ability to speak more than one language fluently, peace corp. experience, and/or worldly experience are encouraged to apply to help contribute to a diversity of thinking and grow our organizational practices.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Holds or is eligible to hold a valid VT Educator license with an applicable English endorsement.
  • Ability to implement a focus on literacy across the content areas
  • Uses standards-based learning practices with a collaborative (PLC) group and can give academic intervention for students who need additional help.
  • Commitment to proficiency-based assessment and learning.
  • Differentiates instruction to ensure that each student is learning at their proximal zone of development.
  • Provides quality formative assessment feedback to students and can adjust instruction based on assessment results.
  • Understands the importance of social-emotional learning to the success of our students and can adjust instructional approaches as needed.
  • Expertise in incorporating technology into the classroom.
  • Dedication to providing students with a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, written and oral communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to the success of all students, and ability to understand and teach to the various learning styles of students.
