Essex Westford School District has an opportunity for a Long-Term Substitute 7 & 8 Social Studies teacher to join a dedicated team supporting Albert D. Lawton School students starting April 19th through the end of the 22/23 school year. Experience in project-based learning that regularly integrates technology and incorporates literacy throughout the content area is essential. Genuine interest, appreciation, and love of middle school students as well as a thorough understanding of middle-level best practices are required.

EWSD is committed to considering out-of-state candidates who are eligible to hold a Vermont educator license but do not yet hold a license in this state. Folks with experience working in another country, the ability to fluently speak more than one language, peace corp. experience, and/or otherworldly experience are encouraged to apply to help contribute to a diversity of thinking and grow our organizational practices.

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
  • Hold, or eligible to hold, a valid VT Educator license.
  • Familiarity and understanding of the Common Core Standards as they relate to social studies.
  • Experience in utilizing technology to support instruction within a middle school setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the belief that all children can learn and succeed in school.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in developing standards-based units, assessments, and reports, differentiated instruction to support learning for all students, and formative assessment to provide student feedback and to adjust lesson delivery.
  • Excellent teaching, organizational, planning, written and oral communication, creative and collaborative skills.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to effectively engage and inspire students to excel.
