Position Title: Special Education Translator/Instructional Support

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Date Revised: January 2023

Primary Purpose:
Provide English/Spanish translation services for parents, students,and staff under general supervision. Translate technical, educational, legal, and general materials between English and Spanish and complete related duties. Assist instructional and related service staff with providing services for bilingual students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
    High School Diploma or GED

    Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Ability to work with children with special needs.

    Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

    Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.

    Knowledge of classroom technology.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    Help teachers prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.

    Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.

    Provide translation as requested by related and instructional staff during the implementation of services.

    Provide written and oral translation of IEP notices, meetings, and related documents.

    Assist with scheduling special education parent meetings.

    Assist with the effective delivery of instruction in the students home language.

    Follow ethical codes and district guidelines that protect the confidentiality of information.
Other:
    Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

    Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

    Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures.

    Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

    Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific worksite assignment.

    Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.

*Physical Demands-

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing; reaching; moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible; district-wide travel; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus; frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; assisting non-ambulatory students and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment; exposure to the sun, heat, cold and inclement weather; exposure to noise.
