Description:

The Director of Development oversees the creation and execution of the development team's comprehensive giving strategy that encompasses individual and foundation giving, the Annual Fund, the 4-year Scholarship Society, and fundraising and stewardship events. S/he will manage a portfolio of major donors and will collaborate with the Vice President of Advancement and the President on fundraising strategy. S/he reports to the Vice President of Advancement and supervises two direct reports.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Develop a comprehensive revenue and expense plan that encompasses individual and foundation giving, The Don Bosco Annual Fund, the Don Bosco Scholarship Society, and fundraising and stewardship events
  • Coordinate the specific objectives of the plan and provide regular updates to the VP of Advancement showing revenue tracking, revisions, and modifications to the plan.
  • Make recommendations concerning strategy and approach for new and continuing financial partners including individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Identify potential donors by researching through key publications and resources, etc.
  • Manage monthly records reconciliation with the finance department
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and make fundraising solicitations
  • Assist the VP in establishing and cultivating relationships and soliciting funds from major gifts prospects; identify targeted donors, track donor contacts, and update donor profiles on a regular basis.
  • Work in partnership with the VP and the Development Associate to develop the event strategy and ensure the success of the annual fundraiser and other fundraising events
  • Attend external and internal Development-related events and activities
  • Staff the Board of Director's Development Committee

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • 7+ years of proven experience with fundraising, including soliciting major gifts and leadership skills
  • Self-starter, positive attitude, desire to grow development efforts
  • Openness to feedback and to using feedback to inform his/her professional practice
  • Ability to think critically and reflectively and to prioritize effectively
  • Successful record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for obtaining information about the giving history and preferences of individuals, families, corporations, and foundations
  • Record of accomplishment of successfully building and maintaining strong donor relationships
  • Success with individual fundraising
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience over direct reports
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially with a team to advance shared strategy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and donor management CRM platform
  • Sensitivity to diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the student body
  • Strong understanding of, and respect for, Catholic faith, beliefs, and practices
  • Commitment to the mission of DBCR

Preferred
  • Knowledge of Washington, DC philanthropic and corporate communities
  • Experience planning and executing organizational communications
