TEMPORARY K-6 SUBSTITUTE TEACHER SPECIALIST

Essex Westford School District is seeking a K-6 Temporary Substitute Teacher Specialist to join the Founders Memorial School team. This position serves as a school-wide resource in support of equitable and inclusive instructional practices consistent with the EWSD vision and continuous plan for improvement. This includes serving as a substitute for various classroom teachers and paraeducators positions ensuring consistency and quality of instruction; providing student supervisory duties to ensure a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all students and to enable planning time for teachers; and serving as a school-wide resource.

This position is a fantastic opportunity for a beginning educator seeking more training and experience and/or folks interested in becoming elementary school teachers. The position is 8 hours per day, during the school year.

Primary job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Short and semi-long term substituting for licensed educators (no more than 30 consecutive days)
  
• Short-term substitute coverage for a variety of paraprofessional positions
  
• Provide orientation and support for new substitute teachers in the school
  
• Assist with coordination of substitute coverage
  
• Provide general administrative, classroom, and school-wide support

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

• Experience working with elementary-aged students strongly desired.
  
• Candidates who hold a valid teaching license or are working toward licensure to become elementary classroom teachers are preferred.
  
• Understanding of the developmental growth of elementary-aged students.
  
• Excellent oral communication skills.
  
• Demonstrated ability to engage students
  
• Ability to redirect/manage behaviors as appropriate effectively; background or training in de-escalation desirable, but training will be provided.
  
• Commitment and dedication to a safe and respectful learning environment for all.
