The Farmington Public Schools is seeking a dynamic educational leader for the position of Supervisor of Special Services (Grades PreK-12). DESCRIPTION: The Supervisor of Special Services is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to teachers and administrators in best practices in special education programming, instruction and assessment. Additionally, the Supervisor will work collaboratively with the Director of Special Service in the recruitment, evaluation and professional development of special education personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess or be eligible for State of Connecticut certification - Intermediate Administration (092) along with certification in either special education or a related discipline (speech, school psychology, social work)
  • Must be prepared academically in the field of educational administration with coursework and /or experience in teacher evaluation and supervision.
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding and deep knowledge of school leadership issues and challenges.
  • Must have a strong instructional leadership background and a deep understanding of a systems approach to continuous improvement.
  • References indicating exceptional teaching, administrative and leadership expertise; a collaborative orientation to problem solving; various life/work experiences that contribute to overall qualification; strong interpersonal communication skills; planning, organizing and budgeting skills

SALARY: $145,083-$155,764 depending upon experience and education

DUTIES:
Instructional Leadership
  • Participates in and chairs Planning and Placement Team meetings in cooperation with building principals
  • Oversees preschool programming, Pre-K-6 specialized programming and delivery of specialized instruction as well as nursing services
  • Provides leadership and guidance to teachers in developing Individualized Education Programs consistent with student needs
  • Assumes responsibility for data collection, analysis, and completion of reports to assess student programs and progress
  • Collaborates with principals and teacher leaders to establish and develop an effective SRBI model

Talent Management
  • Responsible for recruitment, selection and induction in programmatic areas of responsibility
  • Identifies needs for and implements professional development programs for faculty and support staff
  • Assists Principals, Assistant Principals and Director of Special Services with supervision and evaluation of special education teachers and other faculty and staff in programmatic areas of responsibility
  • Directs school health services and the school nursing program
  • Responsible for recruitment, selection, and assignment of Extended School Year program as it relates to special education students
  • Oversees Special Education Team Leaders
  • Oversees Mandated Trainings for all faculty and staff district-wide
  • Oversees the process for identifying the Exceptional Child

Organizational Systems
  • Recommends to the Director of Special Services policies and programs essential to meet the needs of students requiring special education
  • Remains abreast of legal issues and requirement in special education and designs programs to be in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Oversees residency investigations and makes recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools
  • Oversees the Medicaid reimbursement process
  • Collaborates with the Director of Facilities and the FPD to develop security-related practices, documents and protocols
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services or Superintendent

Climate and Culture
  • Leads district-wide implementation of RULER, Positive Behavioral Supports and Social Emotional Learning goals
  • Supports ongoing collaboration with staff, students and community to maintain and strengthen a positive school climate
  • Investigates reported incidents of bullying by students or staff members
