JOB DESCRIPTION:

Human Resources announces an opening for Instructional Technology Coordinator I position located at the Department of Teaching & Learning.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
In coordination with the school principal, teachers and administrative/support personnel, the Instructional Technology Coordinator (ITC) helps integrate current and emergent instructional technologies and the Standards of Learning (SOLs) for Computer Technology of the Commonwealth of Virginia, into school-based instructional programs to enhance and enrich student learning and skill acquisition/mastery. Work is performed under general supervision of the school principal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with teachers to meaningfully and effectively integrate technology into teaching; this includes lesson design, curriculum development, pedagogy mentorship, and classroom co-teaching.
  • Provides teacher leadership, coaching/mentoring, advocacy in "best practices' involving teaching, learning and technology integration.
  • Works with curriculum staff to develop and implement APS technology-enhanced curriculum integration projects.
  • Designs, facilitates, and leads professional learning experiences in educational technology.
  • Models effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources.
  • Researches technology-based instructional strategies and emergent skills, tools, and resources, and disseminate to staff as appropriate.
  • Coaches teachers in, and models use of, online and blended learning, digital content, and collaborative learning networks.
  • Serves on school and APS-wide leadership teams relating to instruction and technology.
  • Meets with school administrators and content supervisors at the school(s) of assignment or central office level to coordinate services and resources.
  • Participates in professional organizations related to education and technology.
  • Assists administrators and content supervisors with data-driven decision making relating to all areas of curriculum and instruction.
  • Reviews and evaluates technology software and assesses proposals involving technology for impact on student learning.
  • Manages and coordinates logistics for the school's educational technology resources to include overseeing web-based technologies and tools.
  • Coordinates with technical support staff, including Technician and other IT support personnel to help ensure the educational mission of the school and student learning are constantly and properly supported by IT resources.
  • Supports the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of school or APS-wide initiatives involving educational technology.
  • Assists in recommending and managing instructional technology purchasing, acquisition, and distribution; manages any budgeting/purchasing authority delegated by the principal.
  • Assists school instructional staff in completion of the Virginia Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP) independently or as part of collaborative training initiatives.
  • As assigned, tracks and reports teacher progress with TSIP requirements.
  • Conducts personal professional learning including research relating to professional growth goals, related conference attendance, workshops, and coursework.
  • Conducts level 1 support as defined by the Department of Information Services that includes troubleshooting of computer lab equipment, hardware, or software problems.
  • Supports the School Testing Coordinator's technology-related needs for mandatory testing.
  • Performs related duties, as required or assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of effective instructional assessment principles, practices and methods related to teaching technology integration for instructional purposes to adults.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquired knowledge of, Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOLs) for Computer Technology and Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP), various coaching techniques such as International Society for Technical Education (ISTE) National Education Technology Standards (NETS), and related bodies of information.
  • Skill in problem-solving. Examples include assessing instructional technology skills of instructional staff, their readiness for learning and other factors to provide effective instruction, deciding on interventions to improve group or individual learning, and providing effective instruction by adapting teaching styles and techniques to individual learners and small groups of learners within programmatic parameters.
  • Skill in written and oral communication.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with contacts in a professional, customer service-oriented manner by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and working in harmony with supervisors, staff, students and the general public.
  • Skill in using iPads, MacBook Airs, PC devices (Dell), Google Suite, Office 365 and learning management systems (LMS) to train instructional staff in integration of technology into instruction and to give them continuing support.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize and apply new technologies and to learn and adapt to new instructional technology products.
  • Ability and willingness to work under pressure of a "fluid environment' that may include some "after-hours' work, changing priorities, tight deadlines, emergencies (such as hardware failures and service outages) and peak periods.
  • Experience trounbleshooting Apple products.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to positively work as part of a team.
  • Experience with technology integration using Apple products.
  • Experience coaching/collaborating with teaches PreK-5th.
  • Experience implementing/coaching with 1:1 iPad classroom.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. A Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Technology, Education or any other field providing a strong foundation for success in the essential functions of this class and level of work, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training, is required .
2. Two years of progressively responsible experience (a) training teachers or other adults in the integration of technology for instruction and productivity using the modes of modeling, one-on-one, small group and large groups, (b) delivering and integrating technology in instructional programs for PreK-12 students, or (c) assessing and evaluating software and media based on curriculum, learning styles and instructional methodologies are required. (A Master's Degree providing a strong foundation for success in the essential functions of this class may be substituted for both years of these two years of experience on a year-for-year basis.)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
A Postgraduate Professional License or a Collegiate Professional License issued by the Virginia State Board of Education is required. (Eligibility for Virginia Licensure/Endorsement through reciprocity may be acceptable.)
