Primary Purpose:

Provide supplemental instructional support services to English language learners. Assist teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under direct supervision of teacher.

Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):

Associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the No Child Left Behind Act; valid Texas educational aide certificate; experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.

Major Responsibilities:
    Under guidance of the certified teacher provide supplemental instruction for individual and small group ELL students to increase English fluency through reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in order to increase academic achievement.

    Under guidance of the certified teacher provide supplemental instruction for individual and small group ELL students to increase subject matter knowledge through reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to increase academic achievement.

    Under guidance of the certified teacher provide assistance in assessing student needs, planning lessons, and administering assignments and assessments for ELL students.

    Under guidance of the certified teacher provide assistance with parent involvement for parents of ELL students.

    Help supervise ELL students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

    Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

    Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

    Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Ability to speak, read and write Spanish and English Fluently

    Ability to work with English language learners' needs and the ability to work with other adults

    Ability to work with individual ELLS and groups of ELL students to support academics and behavior management

    Ability to learn new skills, flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks

    Works well with others-follows written and oral directions

    Ability in mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position

    Ability to maintain student confidentiality

    Ability to communicate effectively with parents in both Spanish and English
