Job Summary
The Quarry Lane School, independent private Jr.K-12 college preparatory, AP & International Baccalaureate school is seeking an experienced full-time Biology teacher.
Essential Duties:
• Teaches 4-5 classes utilizing curriculum designated by Quarry Lane.
• Design, implement, and use informal and formal assessments to measure progress of students.
• Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers to create a data-driven, learner-centered, friendly and safe environment demonstrating shared responsibility for achievement.
• Adhere to and support all school policies to enforce school core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct.
• Set and attain ambitious student achievement and social-emotional benchmarks.
• Model and encourage appropriate student behavior.
• Communicate with parent/guardians on a regular basis regarding student progress.
• Incorporate science competition programs into curriculum.
• Mentor a science club.
• Work with school team to constantly evaluate and improve mastery of instructional, culture building, and leadership skills.
• Maintain a classroom that demonstrates discipline, order and rigor.
• Reflect critically on teaching practice and implement improvement strategies as needed.
• Participate in curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
• Strong technology skills, including familiarity with tools that support learning and organization.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated professionalism: ability to meet deadlines, lead initiatives, be proactive, and communicate with all constituencies of school community.
• Chaperone field lessons/trips.
Required Qualifications:
• B.S degree in science. M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.
• At least two years of experience teaching in biology and/or life science.
