The High School of Commerce seeks Educators who believe teachers are activists - promising instructional excellence, equitable access to curriculum and opportunities, rigor, advocacy, and a tenacious commitment to anti-racism for all scholars.

In addition, there are several opportunities unique to the SEZP schools to increase earnings above base salary or as an extension to base salary. Those opportunities currently include, but are not limited to:
  • Empowerment Academies: Intervention and instruction opportunities we implement during February, April, and summer breaks, with stipends allowing you to potentially earn $2,000 per week


PORTRAIT OF A COMMERCE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR

  • Implement rigorous, equitable curriculum within a cohesive school-wide pedagogical approach and design highly adaptive supports to ensure all scholars can access grade level content
  • Coordinate and calibrate academic experiences with those of other practitioners across the school, ensuring an equitable provision of the highest quality instruction for all scholars
  • Teach scholars to think critically and strategically plan for their lives beyond graduation by building awareness of inequitable barriers, developing self-advocacy skills, and inspiring a vision for potential college and career pathways
PROFILE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL OF COMMERCE
We are a school immersed in a bold and substantive multi-year redesign process to personalize the high school experience with a focus on preparing our scholars for college and career success. We have innovated school partnerships, schedules, and programming to allow Commerce scholars to choose from three di?erent college experiences, including a multi-year, 20-credit, early college or applied career pathway at Spring?eld Technical Community College (STCC); up to 12 credits in a dual enrollment program on the Commerce campus through Worcester State University or West?eld State University; and/or direct work-force entry via Propel America internship pathways in IT, healthcare, or advanced manufacturing.

We are a team of activist-educators who are a?orded generous time to further our learning together in department and grade level teams. The coaching model, professional development, and collaborative teaming is used to support all educators to improve our practice. Teacher leadership opportunities are available to unite our voices in service of dismantling institutionalized racism in and around our school community.

Job Goal: To provide academic student support through Encores and Enrichment classes and activities. Qualified candidates will provide engaging whole group activities for students in various elective classes.

DUTIES:
  • Provide inclusion support for students with IEPs;
  • Analyze student achievement data with colleagues to strategically support student learning;
  • Lead one or more of the following: guided math, guided reading, or enrichment classes;
  • Cover classes for absent teachers;
  • Support school systems by helping to run arrival, homeroom, dismissal, student rewards, grade-wide activities and school-wide functions;
  • Assist teachers with grading and other classroom responsibilities;
  • Participate in staff professional development; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the administration.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree
  • 1-2 years' experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Relevant experience/credentials in enrichment area (e.g., martial arts, fitness, dance, art)

SALARY: Hourly, based on experience, is $18-25 per hour (up to 40 hours per week)

BENEFITS: Full-time employees are eligible for benefits in line with regular SPS employees

WORK SCHEDULE: 12 Month Position- Monday-Friday 7:30pm-3:30pm.

About the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership

In 2015, the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Springfield Public Schools partnered to form the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership (SEZP). SEZP is committed to ensuring that the middle and high schools in "The Zone" are engaging environments where teachers receive the supports they need to grow professionally, and students have the opportunity to acquire the academic and personal skills to succeed in the college or career of their choice.
