RESEARCH SUPERVISOR
Office of Policy, Planning, Evaluation and Testing

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Research Supervisor within the Office of Policy, Planning, Evaluation and Testing.
This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for the position will be placed as a provisional employee. At a later date the candidate will be required to take an examination administered by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates must score and rank high enough on this examination in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.
DEFINITION: Under direction, plans, organizes, and supervises the conduct of intensive investigation, analyses, research, and statistical studies of considerable scope and complexity directed towards the development of new or fuller knowledge of the subject matter under study; does other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
2. Three (3) years of experience in conducting research and/or statistical studies, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
3. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Organizes assigned personnel and advises, plans, and develops research methods and procedures to be utilized in the are under study.
2. Participates in research conferences, meetings, and other undertakings for the purpose of developing resources concerning research and statistics.
3. Keeps current with research projects, studies, publications, developments, and trends.
4. Performs the more responsible work and supervises statistical tabulations, analyses, and interpretations utilizing calculating and other office machines and equipment commonly used in the development of statistical and research data.
5. Performs the more responsible work and supervises the work in making searches, and reads and prepares critical analyses, summaries, and reviews of literature concerned with the matter under study.
6. Supervises the selection of equipment, materials, and supplies required for proper operation of a research program and for specific research studies.
7. Supervises the preparation of reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
8. Supervises, establishes, and maintains essential records and files.
9. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of methods of compiling and tabulating data.
2. Knowledge of sources of statistical and other data and of methods of preparing such data into meaningful reports.
3. Ability to analyze methods of research.
4. Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
5. Ability to see that prescribed statistical procedures are followed.
6. Ability to provide technical advice and assistance to those charged with the gathering of fact finding data.
7. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
8. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
9. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
1. Salary: $95,262 - $114,444
2. Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
3. Union Affiliation: Local 32
