AUDIO-VISUAL SPECIALIST

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, performs network duties related to audio / visual systems.

Operates and maintains equipment used in distribution of audio & visual materials broadcast through Washoe County School Districts data network. Assist in acquisition, presentation, or duplication, as related to electronic medium, confidential & public meetings, training events, or workshops. Incumbent performs related duties as assigned. (Information Technology)

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates and troubleshoots various computers and servers used to deliver multimedia; setup, and operate the equipment necessary to document various meeting of a confidential nature; broadcast and stream live events with multiple microphones and cameras; performs duties assigned as part of the Network team; and meets objectives and remains within budget.

Sets up, adjusts, and operates, equipment such as; servers, encoders, video conferencing equipment, video recorders, cameras, sound mixers, audio recorders, and related production / distribution equipment; performs minor maintenance of electronic equipment used in the facility; duplication of various audio/visual material of a confidential and sometimes graphic nature used in evidence, which confidentiality must be maintained, understands evidentiary procedures as related to the duplication and retrieval of electronic media for use in a court setting; assist with multimedia presentations, meetings presented by the Board of Trustees and or Superintendents; distributes, and maintains server media; and installs hardware, and software updates, troubleshoots allied audio-visual services and CCTV systems.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in information and communications studies with broadcasting emphasis;

AND

2. Four (4) years of experience in video compression technologies, windows media server delivery platforms; four (4) years of public / confidential, meeting documentation; two (2) years of experience in CCTV systems / operations and event retrieval; one (1) year of experience in evidentiary procedures and duplication of media; two (2) years of experience in videoconferencing equipment, setup and operation; and two (2) year experience in the use of multimedia presentation equipment, to a mass audience.

Knowledge of: Computer troubleshooting, types and uses of audio-visual equipment and presentation media; operation of professional video production equipment.,\ television production techniques; video / audio distribution; communications hardware and command center support for District's Emergency Operations Center; video/audio conference equipment

setup and operation; documentation and distribution of various "live" one-time events, using television broadcast and /or event distribution equipment, by a single operator.

Skill at: CCTV systems networked camera, encoder, server configurations, videography; media design & graphic composition; computer operating systems; television engineering; video compression technology; large multimedia event setups and live broadcast events for television and internet; solving minor network issues related to connecting various authorized devices to the network; and working independently and developing effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.

Licenses/Certificates: Closed Circuit Television training certification related to the District's CCTV system; Federal Emergency Management training / certifications, Valid Amateur Radio license with Technician Operator Privileges.

New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

Additional Job Information:

This is a 40 hour a week, 260 days

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
