Lighthouse Community Public Schools is looking for a talented K-8 Education Specialist teacher to join our team who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students of color achieve our mission of completing college, securing a career of their choice, and becoming lifelong changemakers in their communities. LCPS teachers believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community.

During the 22-23 school year, we are launching our Enhanced Inclusion Program! Our enhanced inclusion program centers on individual student needs and combines opportunities for meaningful integration into the general education program alongside customized learning experiences to build students' foundational skills. This will include community-based instruction designed to support students in the generalization of these skills. Our program is specially designed to enhance the learning opportunities for our students who are most impacted. In this new role, you will be a leader in supporting the continued design, development, and implementation of the new program.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a high level of rigor for students with disabilities in order to ensure equitable access to common core state standards and/or alternate curriculum standards
  • Ensure that students are at the center of their own learning and deeply engaged in ways that foster agency. Self-direction, and independence
  • Regularly collaborate with other specialists, including outside providers, and general education teachers for the purposes of reviewing student data, ensuring individualized education plan (IEP) implementation, co-planning and/or co-teaching, implementation of AAC/functional communication, support for physical/mobility needs, etc.
  • Effectively run a program for students with moderate to severe needs with specially designed instruction to meet their IEP goals, and support students' progress within the general education class with appropriately modified/accommodated work and the implementation of an alternate curriculum
  • Oversee, teach and implement a student's behavior intervention plan, including gathering and analyzing relevant data on a regular basis, and collaborating with staff members around student plan and progress
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its influences on our special education program and daily responsibilities
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and ensure IEPs are designed for educational benefit
  • Create and maintain notifications, records, files, and reports as required by federal, state, and SELPA regulations
  • Implement health and mobility supports (i.e. provide 1:1 support to student in classroom, support student/s with toileting needs, assist with health-related needs (g-tube, feeding, administration of medication) (under supervision of school nurse) and assist with the physical needs of students (lifting/ assisting with mobility, implementing student stretching/exercise routines.)
  • Provide daily oversight of paraprofessional support, including the staff schedule and implementation of IEP services
  • Communicate with caregivers on a frequent basis to ensure they are familiar with their child's progress and a part of their child's educational planning
  • Administer standardized academic assessments (e.g. KTEA-4, WIAT-3, etc.), write a report, and share the information at IEP meetings
  • Utilize, collect, and analyze rigorous, student-engaged assessments, both formative and summative, to identify and address students' areas of growth and mastery of learning objectives and IEP goals
  • Grow and contribute as an educator, colleague, learner, and community member including engaging in professional development and your own growth as a teacher in service of student learning and outcomes
  • Additional Duties, as assigned by Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

We would love to hear from you if your educational toolbox includes the following:
  • B.A. or B.S. required; Master's Degree, preferred
  • Appropriate California Teaching Credential or commitment and ability to acquire one
  • Deep knowledge of California Common Core State Standards, student-centered, mastery-based learning, curriculum planning, and data analysis, preferred
  • 2+ years teaching urban youth with transformational results preferred
  • Familiarity navigating educational platforms
  • Experience teaching in a progressive school model
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

SUPERVISION

This position will report to the principal or assistant principal at their school site.

TIME COMMITMENT

This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 10-month (190 day) work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families.

Common Building Hours: All teachers are expected to maintain hours of 8:00 - 4:00 pm M, Tu, Th, Fri and 8:00-5:00 on Wednesdays for Professional Development.
